Posted August 9, 200816 yr Hi All, Here's my new normal green hen (fingers crossed she's split to blue!!) My first question is, is this what scaly face looks like? If so, what's the best way to treat it? Also, how old do you reckon she looks? Thanks. SJW
August 9, 200816 yr NO. She doesnt have scaley face. This is normal for a hen and at some point will flake away and look like the cere of a hen not in breeding condition. As she looks now she is a hen who has been in breeding condition and the cere is about to flake off. Hope this helps set your mind at ease Cheers kaz
August 9, 200816 yr She looks like a YF2 to me - not green I agree with Liv and also I think the hen isnt 12 months yet.
August 9, 200816 yr She looks like a YF2 to me - not green I agree with Liv and also I think the hen isnt 12 months yet. I agree. I'd say she is about 9 months as her iris rings dont seem fully white yet
August 9, 200816 yr I agree. I'd say she is about 9 months as her iris rings dont seem fully white yet Agree again
August 9, 200816 yr Author The colour doesn't come up properly in that photo, she is a much more vivid green than she appears in that picture. What is it about her that makes you say yf2...? SJW
August 9, 200816 yr I will say she is at the 9 - 10 month Mark and is / blue Not scaly face as the others have said -
August 9, 200816 yr If you look at her chest, you can see some blue feathers that the yellow has not changed to green yet. Definitely YF2
August 9, 200816 yr What is it about her that makes you say yf2...? SJW Experience and ownership of hundreds and hundreds of budgies
August 9, 200816 yr Author If you look at her chest, you can see some blue feathers that the yellow has not changed to green yet. Definitely YF2 That's interesting, I didn't pick that before. You can't actually see them with the naked eye! I guess the camera doesn't lie though!
August 9, 200816 yr Actually before I saw everyone's YF statement that is the same thing I thiought you can see the blue where her feathers start to strip plus there looks like a fade of yellow into the chest, I was actually going to ask for a full shot of the bird .
August 9, 200816 yr I agree with the others YF2…so you got more than your wish, she isn’t split for Blue she is a Blue series bird, paired with a Blue you should get White Faced Blues & YF2 Blues.
August 10, 200816 yr Author Guess I need to continue my search for a normal green budgie then!! Here's a full body shot if you're interested :fear
August 10, 200816 yr See the blue in the underside of her tail.... That is her natural body colour. a green budgie would be green there also I used to struggle getting greens too.
August 10, 200816 yr : ( Wrong Again .... I will **** up now and just say it ( and will be right ) cause when i post I am always wrong .. Always the way
August 10, 200816 yr I will say she is at the 9 - 10 month Mark and is / blue Not scaly face as the others have said - BUT you were right Neat
August 10, 200816 yr The age was LOL, But it is a YF2 I thought it was a Yf1 / Blue If in doubt blame your monitor
August 10, 200816 yr you can also see the patchness of blue through her chest too, she may be a sky blue or a light cobalt.
