Mum Abandons Chicks

Featured Replies

Posted

Just had a mum kick her chicks out of the nest so wanting to get some advice on what to do. Two of the 3 will be fine but the third has only just started getting feathers.

I better learn quickly how to hand raise or perhaps another mum can adopt?

Any advice?

Many thanks

Mums do that when they want to start the next round of breeding only yours has begun too soon. If the Dad has been feeding them, would he continue to feed them if Mum wasnt there ? A good number of Dads will. Assuming these birds are in a breeding cage and not colony style breeding in an aviary ??

If they are in a breeding cage, try removing Mum for awhile ( away so she cannot be heard ) and see if the Dad will feed the babies.

Did you try to put them back in ???
