Back To The Cage

Last sunday I started to work with Clyde out of his cage. I took him in a bird-proof room and left his cage in the other room. Everything seems to work, slowly but okay.

The problem is getting his back to his cage. When I take him near the cage's door while sitting on my finger, he jumps off and starts to climb the cage to get on top.

I don't know if he doesn't want to go home or if he can't find the door yet.

Waht i did is covering the cage leaving the door space free...it works...

Bonnie (his mate) is inside the cage calling for him...

Any suggestion?

Sounds like you discovered your own solution :D

Yes, it seems to work...

But my question was if it is possible that he doesn't know where the door is, or he doesn't see it...

Or maybe he wants to stay out of the cage

I think he probably wants to stay out, and if he hasnt worked out the entrance yet, your method of teaching him will make him aware. Believe me, when parrots or budgies want back in their cage, they find the way :)

Great advice there from Sunnie - Mac does the smae when i put him back in he just jumps on top of the cage I just pick him up and put hin in ...:)

Does he like millet? or a toy that he really likes? These are the tools I would use to entice him to go back, as said birds know how to get back :), I think he is having a fun time with you.

I find that putting a ladder up into the door helps. Especially if you teach them to climb it for exercise while holding it slightly tilted, they soon realize it is a red carpet to something. :)

I put a perch under the open door, so it looks like a "landing platform", you know.

The problem is time...I know he'll go back home sooner or later, but when???

well you have to be the boss I have to say and you need to train him to go back in, think if you had to leave in a hurry and you couldn't get him back in, I would work on training him now.
