have been giving the budgies there fruit and vegies but was wondering which is better to give them

diced apples carrots parsnip brocco and silverbeet or is it better to grate the ones that can be

grated might be a bit hard to grate the brocco

hehe... I am lazy when it comes to food (my hubby is the cook of the house :hap: ) so my birds get (very) roughly chopped fruit and veg; eg, I would cut a carrot in 1/4's and an break off whole brocoli heads hehehe. They have no troubles eating it... so its up to you how you want to present your food.

 

They wont send it back to the kitchen complaining about the presentation, promise

What you dont have a five star service Shame on you LOL

I used to grate the carrots and spinach, but when I did I found it was easier for the birds to throw on the ground and it would also dry out very fast. These days I rarely given them carrot, and I take the leaves off the spinach stalk and give them those whole. They seem to enjoy the chewing these things up.

 

I give them corn on the cob and brocolli untouched - well washed, but that is it.

I do both, I notice that Merlin loves the grated though over the diced easier to roll in your beak and get all the juice out.

okay, Carrotts and Bread rolls I grate, Spinish I cut the Green leaves off and slice them Or if i am lazy I tear them same as Bok choy and other leafy greens.. Brocoli I either cut the seeds off ( slice the tips off ) or i break them in to the florettes ( Tree bits) .... Basically if it is hard I grate if it is soft I don't ... i couldn't imagain a budgie eating chucky hard food, so that is why i do it this way - But waht ever is easiest on you

With Percy's beak quite long due to his liver disease... he can't eat on hard things like carrot, so I grate it or cook and mash it. With brocolli he prefers to eat the little seed greens cut off into a dish but he does have a peck at a floret too. What I would like to know is.... can they have our cooked potatoes? He will try and eat it off our plate if we would let him but it contains pepper and a little salt so I don't dare but could I cook it up and mash a little on a dish for him... is it okay for them to eat?

Cooked potato is fine. raw potato is toxic.

Cooked pumpkin is also filled with lots of goodness

I got a little hand wiz thing from safeway for about $40, I put carrot, broc, cooked potato, apple, snow peas, cooked beetroot, cooked egg and dry egg shell in it and wizzzzzzzz (not all at once but combinations of the above) and get Budgie mix, my guys love it I even add Millet seed to it or regular seed if I have a problem eater. Anything leafy I tear up or roughly chop (they go nuts for silverbeet) and also I cut the corn off the cob and give them that or canned corn if I can't find good corn cobs. I have been playing a game of can it blend!

 

The other great thing is that one the weekend I make up tubs of stuff and then just dish it out each day ( I have a bar fridge in my breeding room so keeps it all nice and fresh for me). Normally around thursday I do another lot so it cuts down prep time in the morning.
