Hens Just Sitting On Eggs Not Rolling Them?

At the minute I have 3 hens that have laid eggs and are just sitting on them they don't seem to be rolling/moving them around at all? Is it because it is still colder weather, I didn't breed until later last year?

It has just dawned on me that I got all three hens from the same place, they are approx 2-2 1/2 years old. I'm wondering if that's why they were sold.... :hap:

They probably so roll them, just not when you check them :hap:

I have alot of hens who "appear" not to roll also, but they all hatch chicks successfully so must do.

I would say they are being rolled you just don't know about it! If you are really worried you can mark them with a marker (just be careful the type that you use) that way to you see better if they are being moved but really I would just leave them and then hen to do her job.

If she gets off at all- to eat or whatever they tend to roll them as they tuck them back under their bodies. Dont stress big chance you'll never see them do it

Denise, Don't worry ;) ... I am sure they are doing it, just not when you are watching......

They know when it is the right time to turn eggs ...

I have never seen a single one of mine roll their eggs, and it makes sense.

Rolling an egg over is such a delicate operation. I know I stress about pickign up eggs and young chicks, as i do not want to damage them. imagine trying to do it without opposable thumb - LOL

My hens seem to stress if i am looking in a nestbox, so they would nto be rolling an egg in that situation. yours may be the same

Denise....hope you are only checking once in the morning and once at dusk. If you are so sure the hens arent moving their eggs you must be watching them every minute :P Or do you have a webcam in the nestbox :D

HaHa, yes only check once in the morning and once again about 5ish. It's just that they always seem to be in the same place you never hear them rolling about. Last year when breeding I could hear the hens rolling them around the boxes when I was changing their seed etc.

okay I must be having another dementia moment as my kids call it..... :D

I don't think it's a dementia moment(or an older persons moment as my mum calls it :P ), I think you are just so impatient for everything to work out perfectly you are paranoid about the little things. I do the same thing :D

I'm not paranoid :P it's just that this lot I have down is different from the last 2 lots I have had breed. I suppose also I haven't really had the time to spend around this lot that I have had in the past lots?

I see my hen roll her eggs under her belly but never to "ROLL ROLL" Them, Just let them take their course, next thing you'll know you wil have plenty of Pink widdle jelly beans
