Posted August 3, 200816 yr I have a male green opaline spangle show budgie that i am wanting to breed with this summer so i am started to look for a hen but i would like some advice on the best hen for him. I am wondering would he be best with a normal or a spangle. I want green babies so i am going to look for another green. I am still trying to grasp the genetics but with him being opaline would all the hens be opaline no matter what i pair him with or all just carrying the opaline gene.
August 4, 200816 yr I am going to try a reply but feel free to ignore and listen to others as I am still getting the hang of this. My gut tells me that you want to pair him with a normal and to make sure the normal is not split with anything so that it truly is a normal. I would also say if you wanted to keep the green you need a normal mutation that is resessive so a normal grey would be good. You could go a normal green but then you need to find one that matches his colourings if you want to keep his colours as her green could dominate over his. So yeah I think a normal grey would be your best bet but then maybe I am really wrong so everyone else please feel free to tell me I am way off track!
August 4, 200816 yr A good quality normal green would be nice or a really well marked normal spangle ( not opaline )
August 4, 200816 yr Thanks, now i need to convince hubby that i need to go budgie shopping. Most men you can slip a new budgie past them without too much trouble
