Posted August 1, 200817 yr Hi all, am new here.. have been looking around the net to find some answers about my poor fave male budgie. We have 6 budgies, 3 male and 3 female. My fave male, a pale blue with white wings, who is approximately 8 years old, had a HUGE pile of budgie poo stuck to his bum yesterday. He looked pretty crook. I managed to remove the build up, but underneath is all bare, and his bottom looks kinda swollen. Another part to this story, and I'm kinda embarrassed about it..is I believe it is due to another male budgie who has turned him "Gay". We introduced two new budgies about 6 months ago, a male and a female, both young. The male is SUPER sexed up, but he recently started to have sex with my pale blue boy! Is this normal? And, is this the reason behind him having a build up of poo stuck to his rear end? I've never had two males do this before. Im keeping an eye on teh blue boy, but today he does seem better, except he tends to be wiping his butt on the stick perches to remove his poo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. August 1, 200817 yr Hello and welcome. Sorry its not on better terms, but you are in the right place to get all your answers He dosen't sound good to me. He needs to be separated from your other budgies and put into a smaller cage. Shine a 25-40 watt light on him to give him warmth, and get him to a vet as soon as you can. Have you wormed your birds in the last 12 weeks??? Are any others sick?? Is he underweight - can you feel a sharp breast bone? Oh and your budgie isn't gay.... they just get it mixed up sometimes

I've just noticed on my profile on the side there it says my gender is 'male'.. don't know why... because I did check 'female'! Anyway..thankyou for the advice, I will do this asap. NO, haven't wormed them lately. No, no others are sick, and he isn't underweight. He's pretty healthy other than that problem. Good to know they aren't gay!!
August 1, 200817 yr I agree with Liv. I am actually thinking that this bird is a female with the issues and not a male, do you have a picture of the sick bird. I had 2 males and though another male will advance they never have full sex plus is this is accurate that would not create a swollen bum. You also need to get this bird to an avian vet.

Oh he's definately a male..no two ways about it! He's successfully fathered a few clutches of babies. He was the dominant male up until this new male arrived. NOw he lets the new male do everything...including mate with him! He even shares his 'wife' with the new male. Im seriously thinking of separating them all anyway.
August 1, 200817 yr The reason for the swollen bottom and feathers missing is because of the built up poo. The build up clogged up its bottom and it couldnt poop properly until you removed the build up and resulting in a sore bottom for the bird. The other boy budgie has nothing to do with this. Illness creates clogged up bottoms in birds and needs to be treated early to avoid getting sicker and dying. Essential to seperate and provide warmth by lamp as suggersted. If the birds havent been wormed for a long time then they must be now...all of them. Let us know how it turns out. Edited August 1, 200817 yr by KAZ

I have 2 males bonking in the aviary at the moment They will do it to anything with feathers and a heartbeat I look forward to putting them with females this summer, should have no troubles getting chicks
