Posted August 1, 200816 yr okay Guys, i have a questions I want to breed a REALLY DARK GREY! .... I know that it is a color adder so to speak - So If I breed a Grey to a grey will it darken the grey or not???? Also with the Violets, I have got pastle violets, and a nice violet But i have seen members photo's with BRIGHT! violet! How can I acheive this too - I am aware that violet to violet will reduce the size of the birds So any suggestions .. thanks in advance
August 1, 200816 yr They say you can get Double Factor Grey…Grey to Grey, it probably will increase the depth of colour. Both Grey & Violet I think it's all about selection…like breeds like [genetics] so it's about selecting for the colour you want, either you buy a bird with the required colour you want or select each time for the best you have & hopefully the colour will improve. Also I think the best Violet you can get is a Cobalt Violet, so maybe it depends on which colour phase you have either Sky, Cobalt or Mauve. That’s my thought anyway Neat. August 1, 200816 yr Author Ahhhhhh ! Perfect! Norm, That explains heaps .... What i thought was just a mauve is actaully a violet mauve ( Darker Not Brighter Violet) So the Cobalt Violet is what I'd be after the Electric blue ones which Prince is so to pair that to a Violet I should get those BRIGHT Violets!!!! Hmmmmm DF Grey, I am not understanding that? so I will have a go, that it would be wither Darker or Lighter?
August 1, 200816 yr Author Hmmmmm - okay - So I have what i like to call a slate He isn't Grey and isn't Mauve but a DARK DARK DARK Blue grey ...... Might try him to the Gry hen as they are bonded in the flight avairy! Interesting to see what comes out!!!!!
August 1, 200816 yr Think of greys the same as green and blues. Grey is a factor that effects the colour in the birds. Grey factor to a green with produce a grey green. Grey to a blue will product a grey bird. Greens and blue both come in three colours Sky Cobalt and Muave. Light green, Dark Green and Olive. The grey factor acting on these colour will product the three colours of grey. Light, Dark and very Dark. (Yes it has a name like Architive or something. ) Violet like grey is also a factor. It effects the colours in green and blue. What we call a violet is in fact a violet cobalt. A violet sky looks like a cobalt.
August 1, 200816 yr Neat it is like a spangle they can have 1 spangle gene so it is a single factor or 2 spangle gene and it is a double factor. (but the spangle gene does work different but just an example on the factor part) So you are looking to have double factor greys with 2 dark factors is where I think you would get the darkest grey on a bird. The same goes with the violet gene too but Norm is right if you want a bright blue then you want the violet with 1 added factor which will give you the cobalt violet.
