Posted July 30, 200817 yr Hi there, could someone tell me if it's normal that baby budgies lose some of their weight when they fly from the nest? I've noticed that the two youngest are a bit skinny. Their breast bone seems quite prominent but I'm unsure of how much it should feel like that. They appear healthy and active and their poops appear normal. We have been supplementing their meals with baby mix but they don't appear to want much of it. The parents still appear to be feeding them, so I thought maybe because they are so big now that it's getting harder for the parents to keep up with the amount of feed that they need. I'm unsure of how much I should be worried, even if I should be worried at all. The eldest is only 5 weeks today and appears to be doing really well but we can't catch him at the moment as his parents are too protective and he is right at the top of the cage and I don't want to traumatise him too much as it will be really awkward to get to him. Should I just keep checking them day by day and still supplement their feedings or will they be okay? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Dek, I am not 100% sure on this question, as rarely do i weigh a budgie - But if it has fledged it is more active so I will assume that it will loose a little weight, Newly fledge babies sometimes you can feel their breast plate, But it shouldn't be really bad, Let them start eating their own seed, offer more softer foods, greens, corns, etc, also egg and bikky mixes - But I will leave the other info to someone that knows it - I can catch all my babies with ease even when they cling onto the side of the cage by their beaks - I usually also put the babies back in the nest box until they are 5 .5 - 6 weeks old just for that little extra 7 -14 days makes a difference - Also put in the nest box a bit of millet or a sprinkle of seed even some greens too - This will helps . P.S Oh please can i see a picture pretty please, I love babie photos
