NO, You shouldn't remove a nestbox with eggs in it - add a tarp to 1 side of the avairy so the cold wind doens't chill the birds - I have breed in the begining of winter but i stop in july :D continue in September

I dont breed in july either, but seeing you have babies out in the cold. I would get some thick cloth, like a towel, but nothing colourful or patterned, and wrap it around the box to provide some insulation against the cold. Cont cover the front side or the hole. I did this during a cold snap we had last September and my babies stayed warm. You will have to keep an eye on them as you don't want to scare the hen away either with the towel. Also make sure you keep nesting material in there (unless the hen stresses about it)

If you do happen to find a dead chick, but its still pink looking, bring it inside and put it close to your body for about 30 mins. Often chilled chicks can be revived once warmed up completely.

Yes liv, that is correct, I have done budgie CPR to 1 chick with fantastic results- I breathed on it for a good 10 15 mins

Thanks alot for your replys i have put a warm towel over it now.

The rain has gone but theres still a bit of a breeze.

I have covered my aviary with tarpolin so the wind doesnýt get in.

;)

Why was the nest box in there? SOunds like you where not planning on breeding during winter so why leave the nest box in there? I hope it works out and you do not lose the chicks, keep us updated.

Brittany - as we pointed out in your other post your birds are too young to be breeding. You need to take the nest box out of the aviary to let them rest once this new clutch of eggs hatch and the chicks are weaned. It takes a great deal out of them (especially the hen) to lay eggs and rear the chicks.

Yea,

When the chicks are gone im going to put the hen in a seperate cage joined to the aviary with no nesting box.

she has been the only budgie thAT has had eggs, so i nthink she deserves a big long rest ;)

Good Idea Brit.

In that time that they are resting it is Perfect for you to Read up on more breeding and etc - Also you could then get a few different Budgies so that they aren't breeding with the same family members :hap:

So what are you going to do with these babies? Hand tame them?? I just finsihed taming up one of mine :hap:

I think you would be better off removing the nest box altogether for the moment. As many of your budgies are closely related and also some are too young it would be better for you to put the nest box in the small cage and leave the hen in the aviary. That way you can choose who breeds. If you take the hen out and leave he nest box in chances are another hen will make use of it.
