Posted July 29, 200817 yr If the first egg is laid and the budgie does not constantly sit on the egg is there a chance that this egg will not hatch, our budgie comes out quite often?
July 29, 200817 yr it is quite common that the hen won't sit until she has laid a couple eggs, the egg if fertile should be okay.

July 29, 200817 yr Hey Sandbill, AS Elly has said, Hens usually do not sit on there eggs until the 3rd egg has hatched, some will sit straight away some don't ...... 18- 21 days From INCUBATION - When the hens is sitting on the eggs, is when IF fertile they should hatch? You can check the fertility, around the 7- 10 day mark from incubations Comgrats on the egg
July 30, 200817 yr Until eggs are consistently kept warm ( incubated ) they stay in limbo. They are fine till the hen begins to constantly keep them warm. Some hens do from the beginning but most dont until either 3-4 eggs are laid or even more. Eggs can be fine for a week to ten days if not yet incubated. Once incubation begins the hen has a window of around 20 minutes to be off the eggs and eat each time she leaves the nestbox.

July 30, 200817 yr Good luck with the eggs. But I wouldn't put them in the water, I think some infection could get into them. You can candle them, look in the FAQ's to see how to do it http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en Edited July 30, 200817 yr by Zebra
