Posted July 28, 200816 yr I told myself I will never breed, but today I was standing by the aviary and watching the pretty budgies and I felt so much like breeding some of them, having the little cute babies and waiting what color they're going to be  Some of them are paired up and look so happy together I told hubby, I feel like breeding and first he said no, but then he said I could use the old cages and turn them into breeding cages I don't know guys, should I do it or not, I'm confused Edited July 28, 200816 yr by Zebra
July 28, 200816 yr I think it’s the most interesting part of the hobby Zebra, if I were you I would go ahead & do it. The only thing is that if you breed more than you can comfortable keep there is the problem of selling or getting homes for your excess, so you have to think about that side of it. Especially with you starting a new family, as even seed is expensive here now & will probably get even more expensive. I guess it’s not much different there. I put my bird keeping on hold while I had little kids, because of the expense & only kept things like chooks that we could eat or get eggs from.
July 28, 200816 yr GO FOR IT ZEBARA!!!!!! You have us be hind you , Hubby to make the cages, You got the Birds :hap: :hap:
July 28, 200816 yr If you decide to go ahead Zebra, make life easier on yourself and put at least three pairs down to breed at the same time. Then if things go wrong as they can with breeding you will have fosters for eggs and babies :hap:
July 29, 200816 yr I agree. Go for it :hap: I am BURSTING to get my pairs breeding too. I cant yet though because as its been getting below zero here at night and it's TOOO COLD!!! Keep us posted!!! :hap:
July 29, 200816 yr Author Thanks guys I'm still not sure if I should. I'll see how things go . I'd definatelly put like 3 pairs down to breed. But one girl I want to breed is not even one year old, so I think I'll wait till next spring/summer. I'm also starting to work end of summer - I'll do home office administration , so who knows how much time I'll have I have a little question and I don't want to start whole new post about it: I have one show type male and he seems to be bullied by some of the other males. Do you think it's because he is bigger? I was thinking of getting on more show type bird, maybe they make friends and he won't be bullied anymore... What do you think?
July 30, 200816 yr A hard decision for you Zebra. As far as Ben is concerned you'd probably have more time now than when he gets a bit older. Glad it's your decision and not mine
July 30, 200816 yr Author A hard decision for you Zebra. As far as Ben is concerned you'd probably have more time now than when he gets a bit older. Glad it's your decision and not mine I know when Benny gets older, I'll probably be running around the house chasing him :hap: . But I'll see, I feel I should wait anyway as we are still fixing the house and some of the birds are still too young. It's not like if I don't do it now I can never do it !!! I can always wait till the kids move away and I'll need something to do so I don't get mad But at least I can have fun planing it :hap: I think I'd like to put together: Johnny (mauve spangle dominand pied male) + Sisi (lutino hen) Adam (green opaline male) + Mig (skyblue normal hen) Bambi (normal violet male) + Goofy (YF2 skyblue opaline spangle hen) Rainbow (YF2 blue opaline male) + Dozey (YF2 skyblue opaline spangle dominant pied hen) What do you think? I'm not 100% sure about the mutations, but that's what I think they are. Here are some pics. And I'm not sure if I should breed Bambi, he is one of my babies and his sister has some hormonal problem (poo gets stuck inside sometimes), do you think it can be in the genes? So the brother would carry it somehow?
July 30, 200816 yr Glad we are talking about budgies Zebra! I was about to say "You just had one, have you already forgotten" :hap:
July 30, 200816 yr Author Glad we are talking about budgies Zebra! I was about to say "You just had one, have you already forgotten" I think I'll wait for a while with any other human babies And the budgies didn't even wait for me to decide if I want to breed them or not and yesterday I found an egg on the aviary floor . And they didn't want to tell me who was it . They didn't lay for ages, so I can see they are happy in their new place Edited July 30, 200816 yr by Zebra
