Posted July 28, 200816 yr In a couple weeks I will be driving up to school and moving all my stuff with me, this includes my bird. While I have moved with her before I kept her in a cardboard box and the move was only 30-40 minutes. This time I will be driving about two hours and was trying to decide whether the box would be okay or if I should buy a travel cage. Any ideas or suggestions....
July 28, 200816 yr I think a small travel cage is better for ventilation and you can put some wet greens in there for food and water but keep the cage covered with a light sheet or towel, a box I would all do but for comfort I would say a travel carrier.
July 28, 200816 yr I find that if my guys are going more then an hour (Harley use to do three hour trips with me twice a week when I first got him) a travel box is better, they feel very safe and cuddle up and sleep. When I had him in a travel cage he would get restless and noisey after about an hour.
July 28, 200816 yr I use a carry box. Its a mixture of a cage and a box. Personally i feel a cage is dangerous and i will only move my birds in a card board box or a carry box. Cages mean a bird can flap its wings and panic. In a small box i bird can do very little harm to its self if anything was to happen. I also put the seat belt though the handle in case i have to stop suddenly- i don't want it to fly off the seat Here is a carry box i made last week. (cost $5.00 of materials: wood, glue, nails, handle, aviary wire. ) I can fit 2 birds in this and they travel well it it. They have fresh air but still feel secure by the wooden sides. they can huddle on the floor or perch on the perch. I also put seed and water in there for trips that will take over 30 mins.
July 29, 200816 yr I would use a carry box along the lines of Livs one, but as I have show cages I would use one of those. Covered in all sides but the front, a low perch and seed on the floor of the cage. :hap: Play good music...the birds love good "upbeat" music in the car on a road trip and sing along. Mine like Boney M, Abba and they hate Bruce Springsteen :hap: Edited July 29, 200816 yr by KAZ
July 29, 200816 yr Hey Liv, did you make that one ? :budgiedance: yes Great job Liv...but I would adjust the perch if I was you or they will slide forward
July 29, 200816 yr Yeah i know its on a slight angle. I installed the perch too high for the big (boofy) show types. They could bump their heads on the top, so i lowered it at one end so they wouldn't get a head ache :budgiedance: Its glued into a hole at the other end so i will have to cut it out... I will adjust it properly soon, and i will add another perch too hehe
July 29, 200816 yr WOW - Make me one LOL - Great Job, Trust Kaz with her eye for detail to pick the slope :budgiedance: I wouldn't have noticed otherwise lol
