I also got this grey spangle cock

 

She is an 07 and he is unrung - I picked him for his nice spangles

 

If i put them together what would I get???

I would say yes to a Green but I am still learning, however she does look very yellow through the face... hmmm okay going to leave that one for someone who is better at it then me.

Find her a nice opaline boy.....oplaine anjd cinnamon improves size and feather quality. Remember green is dominant ........so maybe a grey which will give you three colours......greys greens and grey greens. Find a boy with a bigger head and longer mask section.

Your spangle is nice too. Spangles can be used as "normals" when breeding. You could try them together.

Just a question but given the bird is cinnamon could it have a dark factor which is being diluted by the cinny?

He is not opaline but he is cinnamon. He is the boy i bought last weekend (sorry they are fuzzy - he wouldn't keep his head still for me)

what are you looking for in the out come? type of colours or just a bird for showing?

 

I like the grey cinnamon and that would give you more cinnamons (of both genders)

Both quite nice birds Liv…congratulations on your first Green. The Cinnamon Grey looks good too, maybe he would be a good match…as Kaz said you would get some Grey Greens & the way she wrote it without a comer between Grey & the first Green making it Grey Greens & Grey Greens might be true…my aviary seems to be filling up with Grey Greens they are often nice size birds & of good type, lots of my better show types seem to be that colour. I like Cinnamons myself & they are good birds to improve feather quality later in other birds.

When it comes to breeding, i am still not sure what i am wanting to achieve,

I love the mixed up colourful look of the pet type and i love the size of the show type.

I would like to breed some nice show types, some nice mixed up pet types and a blend of the two to make super pet types

 

I was saying to my hubby earlier, i would like to breed quality, healthy birds for hand tame pets, that come with a health guarantee and information pack.

 

I would also like to start a line of show types and get into the showing side too

 

I think at the moment I am experimenting :hap:

I would think that issuing a certificate of health might be a risky thing…it might be taken as a guarantee & once birds leave your hands anything can happen, as you have no further control over them & things can change very rapidly. I think you do your best to deliver a bird in good condition, but after that I wouldn’t be taking on any guarantee. So far I have bought a couple of birds that looked healthy in my opinion, but died in a couple of days & no one has ever offered to replace them for me.

Norm, it depends on how you write a guarantee up I think it should be descriptive and I know we do have a store that does a 30 day which I think is acceptable but I know where you are coming from what if they starve the bird bit hard to prove you or health issues. BUT, if you back up your birds this way and you screen your potential buyers along with talking them about care of budgies and handing them a care sheet that Aly had made up and is in the FAQ section then good things should happen. BUT it is always up to the breeder .

 

MB, I think you are right on the aspect that the cinnamon gene can wash out the colors it is called not dilute.
