Posted July 28, 200817 yr Hi. I am totally new to the whole budgie scene. Well i had one when i was 5, but that's not the point of this post. the point is i don't know what colors my birds are. i have 38 birds, i know genders of most of them( i think), but i'm stumped on everything else. i know i have green and yellow and blue and grey, but i was talking to someone the other day and their like, "i have a yellow faced olive green male" (for example) and i'm thinking this bird looks more like a soldier than a budgie. can you help? Also any breeding tips would be greatly appreciated? How much are those little black show boxes? Thanks Trish
July 28, 200817 yr Hello and welcome If you can post some pictures of your flock, we will be able to help you type and colour them
July 28, 200817 yr pictures would be needed to tell their types. have a look in the mutations threads and see if you have birds looking like that can help as well
July 28, 200817 yr Hi am welcome If you look in the Breeding Tips section there is alot of great Helpful Advice, and Tips in there

July 28, 200817 yr Author It's cold. i put on three jumpers just to go out and take these pictures. ( dosen't help being surrond by trees) BRRRRR!!!
July 28, 200817 yr he is a green (something) spangle - i am not good with the greens :hap: You have a recessive pied looking in the nest box and a sky blue opaline spangle sitting on the top next to what looks like a lutino The one with its back to us looks like a sky blue dominant pied... maybe opaline?? Then you have a cobalt normal blue and a sky blue peeking in the side. They are pretty, but cant see what they are. You have a Yellow Face type 2 sitting in the middle at the bottom. There is a normal grey next to him and i see a pretty violet sitting top left. Very nice sky blue opaline :hap:
July 29, 200817 yr Author big blue is my favorite out in the avairy. he's the biggest at the moment, but little green is comming up quick i think these are pied but i'm not really sure this is turq i reacon he is the prettiest and i don't know what this is. would it be a spangle of some kind? July 29, 200817 yr Recessive pied Normal blue (right) and a grey dominant pied (left) Grey opaline - not pied :hap: He is a Yellow face type 2 spangle (i think) and she is possibly a poorly marked spangle - not sure on her :hap: Edited July 29, 200817 yr by **Liv**
July 29, 200817 yr You have a beautiful mixture there lovely colours. My favourite is big blue aswell.
July 29, 200817 yr Very nice mix of budgie colours there. Be very careful with colony breeding like you are. Territorial issues will come into play with nestboxes so very close like that and you may end up with eggs thrown out of nests and dead and maimed chicks from hens trying to take over the nest box. Also if you have any in the aviary younger than 12 months they will try and breed at just a few months of age and can become eggbound....not being old enough to breed. The nestboxes are the encouragement for the younger ones to breed. Here is a helpful article for you............ http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...t=colony%20bree
July 29, 200817 yr The recessive pied ones Liv are Dom pieds Thanks Libby... I still find it hard to tell the difference
July 29, 200817 yr It gets like that with some of them  Esepcially the non-clearflight dom pieds who look very similar to recessives with their markings
July 29, 200817 yr okay so pack BIG BLUE and your Grey Opaline and send them my may, while your in the avairy you might as well send down they pretty violet in there too ..:budgiedance: Lovely birds, thanks for sharing... Liv, Great Job mate I couldn't have said it better my self, Actualy I couldn't have said most of them : lol
July 31, 200817 yr the spangle you like is a Grey-green spangle the last one Liv wasn't sure on is a grey-green spangle pied
August 2, 200817 yr Author well i just bought ten more. and one of them is the biggest budgie i have ever seen. She is enormous.I was just wondering if anybody lives around my area that could come and tell me what all my birds are, cause i get so confused. :huh:11 actually. Is a runner a bad thing. i bought one as a compainion for a bird i have inside, and there are two more here that don't really fligh. that could just be because they're young, but i'm not to sure.
August 2, 200817 yr Remember to use strict quarantine - Lots of birds from different places can be a recipe for disaster!
August 2, 200817 yr Author yeh i know. they have 1-2 weeks inside then if everything is okay they go out into the avery. how long do you usually leave them in quarantine for??
August 2, 200817 yr quarantine lasts a minimum of 30 days. Make sure to worm them on the first day of quarantine and keep a close eye for any sickness. Any sickness that occurs will extend the quarantine period (for all birds) for another 30 days AFTER any illness has cleared up fully. Edited August 2, 200817 yr by **Liv**
