What To Give My Birds?

Hi guys i would just like some suggestions on addatives to give to my birds, i am trying to get them ready for breeding and give them the usual seed, fresh veggies, grated carrot, boccoli, lettue and sweetcorn, i gave them all a calcium/mineral bell and millet but the only thing they will touch is the seed, some will try the millet and sweetcorn.

I have been adding vitamin suplements to their water every couple of days but is there anything else you can sugest for these fussy budgies

Mine love Silverbeet and Celery tops, also try apple. You might want to mix seed into their veggies and take their seed bowl away for a few hours. That way they get the idea that they can eat the veggies.

Sounds like you are doing are great job so far!

The Key - is FRESH! ( you can use frozen veggies, Tin corns etc When I say fresh I don't mean go to the furit shop LOL) stale foods and water are a no no- Remember to remove any uneaten fruits and vegies at the end of the day.

Try some egg and biccy mix or scambled eggs

I agree with Av, on sprinkling some seed on the vegies they aren't eating even use some millet on there, after a few attempts they will be, loving their Greens .....

thanks Neat i have tried the millet sprinkled on top and will persit with it, i also bought some baby food to mix in and see what happens

Just amek sure that if you add the seed to the veggies then to remove their normal seed for a while otherwise they will not go investigage the veggie seed mix

Mine are veggie crazy. They see me coming with it and they all hang off the wire with excitement -

Yours will get used to them in time - One will try it, then two, then more, then they will all tuck in :hap:

Remove the Lettuce - it has no health benifit for them.

I would also be giving them liquid calcium in their water on the days that you are not giving them the vitamins :hap:

okay this morning i have tried a combination of a few suggestions so luttuce is gone, i put boccoli, carrot and sweet corn in a little dish, added a bit of baby food and then a layer of their seed mix, removed their regular seed dish and have been watching to see what happens, ohh and i also mashed up some egg for the girls and will see how that goes once it has cooled down abit

Thanks for all your suggestions and i will let you know what happens

I look forward to hearing how they go.

Also.. I have noticed that its best to give fresh food at their feeding times - for mine birds its about 4pm at the moment.

In the middle of the day, food will tend to sit until they are ready to feed again.

okay well the vegie baby food mix went down okay (i say okay cause although they didn't devour it they at least tried it) so here is hoping that it will work and they will finally start eating something healthy and some of the girls tried the eggs so i will keep going with that
