Posted July 27, 200817 yr So my OH took me away from the weekend. I had mentioned to Ivan that I was going away and he gave me the address of another lady that he knows that does Aviary clean out and told me where she was. So we see the signs on the way home and stop, I was a little grossed out of the condition that the bird where in to tell you the truth but they where cheap. She had some really nice little pied pet types and some poor little guys that look really beaten up and my OH kept kicking me to stop me from taking them all home but there was one pair that caught my eye right down the back. Both have 05 rings on them so they are not that old but i do really like the cock. It was $20 for one or $20 for two to I then found the grey opline hen and took her as well. I felt sorry for all the guys I had to leave there but I do like what I got. I am hoping that she just got a bunch in and is over stocked..... Anyway onto the pictures The Cock - Sorry he would not sit still, and yes he does look fluffy in the second picture but he is not really, after about 15 shots I figure it was not worth stressing him anymore just to get a good picture. I really like his size and the brightness of his colour. Any suggestions on what I should put him to? The Hen - Not over the moon with her but I do like her size she is a big hen so hoping if I put her to one of my smaller normal grey guys I might get some bigger chicks however I only think she has two maybe three rounds left before I let her live out her life in my avairy unless she proves to be a great mum and has no issues laying I might play her by ear. July 27, 200817 yr Beautiful birds, don't you hate not being able to take them all. i love the grey hen, i hope you get some nice babies from her. I don't really know what to put the cock to but will be interested to hear what some of the others have to say cause i have a nice green cock to and not sure who to pair him up with either. keep us updated
July 27, 200817 yr how lucky, the first one looks like he is going into or is in a molt, the second one is very nice looking like those throat patches.
July 27, 200817 yr sounds like something I would do!Very pretty hen and the cock is handsome. Will probably start looking better now they are living with you!
July 27, 200817 yr Both look quite nice type birds AV, I also like the hen, looks a good breeder type to me. Good luck.
July 27, 200817 yr Very nice AV - I like your hen too. Very nice buy!! and i hope you had a lovely weekend Edited July 27, 200817 yr by **Liv**
July 28, 200817 yr Author Thanks guys, the Hen is growing on me and has been nick named Island, the Cock is Phillip (any guess where we went for our weekend away? ) Both are going into Molt I believe and both hate each other, there was a quick stop on the way home to split them into seperate boxes and then again last night to move them into seperate cages.... yeah these two do not get along. I like Phillips colours so much that I am thinking I need to hunt around for a nice big normal green hen to go with them and hopefully maintain his colour in the chicks. I am thinking that I will put Island to either Brandon or Micky as both are normal greys and on the smaller size so hopefully that will give me some darker greys and better size.
July 28, 200817 yr Author Been thinking, Maybe they would settle down if I gave them a breeding box. Thinking I might pair them as I do like their size but not sure what I will get out of them. Any ideas or not thinking it is a good idea? Either way I need to let them do quarantine and hoping that if I let her settle in a cage with a breeding box and then add him a week later and keep an eye on them for the first day they might settle. They have been talking to each other through the bars of their cage today so maybe it will work or do you think that her colour would wash out his? Ideas suggestions....
July 28, 200817 yr Just remember their stress levels are at the peak at the moment Av, Home, to car, to different cage, to new home, to differnet cage and if you were to add a nest box intheir too just to settle her down you maybe asking for trouble... Let them settle themselves, cover them up at night fall

July 28, 200817 yr Author Sorry misscommunication, not thinking of breeding from them for at least 30 days to make sure that they are not sick. Also not going to put them in the same room as my healthy Budgies till I know they are 100% well. Sorry I was thinking more in the future not right now
