Have You Had This Happen?

I had two birds in a cabinet with a box and they have preened each other crazy and he has removed all the feathers from around her cere and beak and also seems to have chipped her beak? i have removed them from the cabinet and put them into the flight aviary so that they dont just sit there and preen all day so i will watch for any improvement. Has anyone had this happen? How long does it take for the feathers to grow back?

Heya, I haven't had this happen But i am sure the feathers will grow back after the next molt, Which ones where they ? How long were they in the cabinet for ?

Are you sure he has done it and she hasnt contracted scaley face ?

I agree.

If the feathers have just been plucked out, they will grow back in about 2ish weeks :D

It is the albino you gave me.They were in the cabinets for about 3 weeks?

They dont have scaley face or they have no signs of it. I gave them a shot of invermectin before they went into the cabinets just incase anyway. So i am really stumped because i have never seen this before with any of my other birds.

Hey Missylu i wouldn't worry to much, i had a pair in breeding last year and he plucked the back of her head bare but after she went back in the aviary they grew back with no problems. I have no idea why he did this and i never even saw him do it but she was fine.

Her feathers have alll but grown back already. they are short but the are getting there......few i was getting worried! Thanks again guys

Missylu Lemon and Lime do this a bit, she preens and preens him and then he ends up with a bald patch. She then seems to layoff for a bit, feathers grow back and we start again. I was worried that he had something like mites but nope she just likes to preen him. I have a few times now physically stopped them and she seems to lay off for a few days I think so birds are just so in love they can't help it!

Offended you gave one of my birds Ivermic !!!

Misslu if I were you next time you visit Neat take your Ivermectin & treat all her birds, it would be much safer to visit then no chance of taking anything back home again…[me make trouble …NO.]
