Why has he died?

My son's Lutino has just died, she was fine until yesterday when we noticed that she was acting strangely, her head was bobbing down and forward and she had bubbles coming out of her nose. I had intended to take her to the vet tomorrow, but I'm afraid she died this morning. We have had her for about 4 years and she was a rescue bird before that. I can't think what could have happened or if there was something that we could have done to help her. Anyone have any suggestions as to what could have been wrong with her?

hi SoozyQ,

So sorry to hear about your sons' lutino.

It sounds very much like a respiratory infection. Unfortunately budgies are very good at hiding their illnesses until it's too late to do anything because that would make them very vunerable to predators in the wild.

Take Care.

Yes definelty respitory infection did he make any clicking sounds before that because it could also have been air sac mites! Thats how my budgies died.

Thanks folks for the replies, no clicking noises that I was aware of. It was very sudden. Would it be okay to disinfect the cage and go back to the rescue centre for another bird, maybe two?

It's a Scottish charity that's run by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). They rehome animals and birds that have been rescued either as cruelty cases or if owners can't look after them anymore. This particular centre has anything from horses to birds!

Cool I think I have one do you have to pay a lot for the birds less or more then pet stores?

I honestly can't remember what we paid for my son's bird, but I don't think it would be any more than if bought from a breeder. I thought it would be nice to give an unwanted bird a good home. We got our dog from the Cat & Dog Home when he was 10 weeks old. He cost us ?35, and eleven years on we just wouldn't be parted from him! Anyway, I'll let you know how much we pay for another bird, we'll go along tomorrow and have a look to see what there is.
