Hi all

Its been awhile since I have written and now I have a question. Would appreciate your thoughts on the best way to handle this.

My partner and I are going away for 4.5 weeks oversea's, we have a budgie that Im torn between whether to leave her at our place and have a family member come to visit,change water/food, clean cage etc

Or do we take her to my parents house for the whole time - they currrently have a cockatiel and two dogs - but Im thinking the companionship would be better in this case. What if the family member cannot make it for a couple of days ??? - What then ???

We got Bennie back in late March and although there has been some improvement in her trusting us, Im afraid that she may withdraw if left alone at our house......but then on the other hand, Im worried she may withdraw because of fear of the dogs etc.

Any suggestions/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated..........

I would take it to your parents as you said something might happen and whoever has to come and feed it mightnt be able to make it and it will have some company

I wouldn't leave her for that long, we have inside birds plus dogs and the birds get used to them very quickly. Since they have a tiel I would imagine that the dogs are used to seeing the bird and don't bark at it or anything so it should be fine. If your parents have any problems give me a shout, Bennie is welcome at my place. He can stay in my bedroom where he is seperate from the other birds.

I agree with MB and rusty. it's too long to leave at your house alone

I will also put my hand up to Budgie sit if you need.

I agree a couple days alone is okay but even with a pet sitter she would be very lonely, if they are responsible and are willing to watch her I would let them.

Couldn't bear the thought of us being away and her sitting there during the day & night with no - one to talk

too......

You all confirmed my instinct anyway and glad you did....really now that I think about it, it was a no brainer

But appreciate your input once again...............

Have you made a list for your parents like Elly did ?

Hi, I let Mum and Dad know last night, that they would be true Grandparents to Bennie while we are away

and they are more than happy with the idea. Plus my partner was more comfortable with the idea that Bennie

would have people around all the time,like it is with us.

I have not seen the list that Elly made - where do I find this???
