Posted July 23, 200816 yr Hey All, I am curious - Most of my babies, Barbs ( BLACK STRIPES ON HEAD) slowly disappear. But Mac's are still there right from his cere. He is 4 Months old and a Dom Pied? I am charging the camera now so I will post a close up of him as soon as I can ... Any ideas thought?
July 23, 200816 yr Is he an inside bird??? My baby inside birds moulted later due to the artificial climate.
July 24, 200816 yr I had a hen who didn't moult out until about six months... perhaps it's too cold now for him and his body is leaving his moult until a safer time?
July 24, 200816 yr Author Yeah I am sure that he has , As he was at my MIL (Mother In Laws) Could be due to being an inside bird!!! Didn't think of that - IBatteries have charged I will take happy snaps now
July 24, 200816 yr we sure with the HE? I can just see the white rings in that picture. anywhere from 3 months to 6 months is normal for them to start losing the bars, and as stated inside/alone birds seem to stay babies that little be longer than ones in the flock.
July 24, 200816 yr we sure with the HE? That's what i thought too... but its a bit dark to tell for sure. Not sure exactly about the bars... I still say its because he is an inside pet budgie - and a cute one at that
July 24, 200816 yr Author Yes BOY!I breed him he is a March Baby okay getting better pickokay i had to use the flash for this one - Yes i am 100% sure he is a He, cere has been purple all along.okay so here you can't see that the barbs go down to his cere it just looks like a smudge there, but it does..Ah well I will put it down to a late molter LOL Edited July 24, 200816 yr by Neat
July 24, 200816 yr Author MAC'S PARENTS AND BREEDING POST ...Dad - Albino - Mum Golden Face, Dutch or Danish or Muffinpied LOL Edited July 24, 200816 yr by Neat
July 24, 200816 yr I was going to say maybe it was because it was a Recessive Pied, I have had many of them that retain their barring, as that gene seems to do strange things to feather colours, but as Nerwen says there’s an iris ring. Probably just late with its moult, there seems a lot of genetical variation in moulting out; some strains are very fast others take their time.
July 24, 200816 yr He doesn't look like he has molted out at all yet Neat and if he was at your parents house (not sure how long) you should have seen the tail end of the molt, he is a doll.
July 24, 200816 yr If by any chance this baby is a DF dom pied then they have patterning similar to recessive pieds around the head area and often retain most of the barring for life.
