Posted July 23, 200817 yr So I am getting mb a wedding gift with a difference. She already knows she is getting "Charlie" I was looking for a crest breed spangle hen as his girlfriend however could not find one. So instead I found this crest breed hen Now she has a navey tail which means that "she is an olive and that means split blue as olives are bred from violet green inheritance. " (quote thanks to Kaz) As well as the pair you see above I am also picked up this pair A pair of the orginal Bush Budgies.... they are soooo cute and small and but little little babies! Anyway MB happy wedding, I hope that your OH likes your wedding gift as well or should I buy his something electric so he does not notice that you ended up with another 4 birds! This is a picture with the flash cause you can see her blue in her tum tum better Edited July 23, 200817 yr by Angelic Vampyre
July 23, 200817 yr Oh she is lovely!! Great buy AV!! MB will just love them both!! the Bush budgies are so cute. they look so scrawny compared to the show types lol Edited July 23, 200817 yr by **Liv**
July 23, 200817 yr Olives are the darkest form of green (2 dark factors) I wasn't aware that they had to have blue in their genetics to become olives I thought just two dark factors? Congrats MB, they're gorgeous
July 23, 200817 yr Best wedding present ever Oh, and the OH, he won't even notice a few more budgies Besides I sold 6 ast weekend so even with newbies I'll still be down on original numbers
July 23, 200817 yr You probably already know this but i will say it anyway - when it comes to the crested budgies you should not put two together as the mutation reacts badly when put together and you end up with no babies or deformed ones. Thats what i have read anyway.
July 23, 200817 yr Oh Libby I am glad someone said that, I thought that I might have been wrong and well you know -
July 23, 200817 yr Author LOL I was worried you would not like her cause she is not BRIGHT but she is really pretty and has a good size on her. Kaz says she may be wasted on Charlie but you can always give them a go and then change her out with something else to see about getting some violets. Also I know you have said that liked the Bush Budgie so when i was offered this pair i thought you might like them as well. Strange little things that they are. Missylu, yes you are right, it is not recommended to put a crested to a crested. However she is crest breed which means that one or both of her parents are crested so she should carry the gene she may not however. If you put a crest breed to a crested you increse your chances to get a crested chick.

July 23, 200817 yr Author They are nice, I am hoping that you are aware that WILD budgies shouldn't be housed with domestic bidgies huh why not? Since they came from the same breeder I put them in the same cage, should I split them up?
July 23, 200817 yr okay, I figured that, I can house them with the other birds then I just need to give them a good rest on heir own before I give hem a nest box to ensure that any chicks do belong to the wild cock. I wasn't sure if their was some sort of temperament reason for housing them seperately.
July 23, 200817 yr Olives are the darkest form of green (2 dark factors)I wasn't aware that they had to have blue in their genetics to become olives I thought just two dark factors? Congrats MB, they're gorgeous That is what is true they are 2 dark factors, in fact that bird looks like a Golden Face II blue with that much blue on the bottom of her. Violet is only an added factor on a green bird and can be on light green, green and olive birds. Very nice wedding gift you are very lucky. Edited July 23, 200817 yr by Elly
July 23, 200817 yr Author Oh okay I was getting worried there for a min as Mozzie my green girl is suppose to be a bush budgie and she is in the avairy with everyone else. i was worried for a fighting thing or a size thing.
July 24, 200817 yr Olives are the darkest form of green (2 dark factors)I wasn't aware that they had to have blue in their genetics to become olives I thought just two dark factors? Congrats MB, they're gorgeous I totally agree Libby I was going to say the same. It's Light Green, Dark Green or Olive depending on the number of Dark Factors. AS FAR AS I KNOW NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING SPLIT FOR BLUE [sorry Kaz]. I also agree with Elly more like Golden Face Type 2 Violet Green [so YF2 Blue]… Nice birds MB should be happy. Also I don't think that that hen will be "wasted" on Charlie. From what I read lots of Crests aren't of such good type, so pairing her to him should improve their chicks, I know if you want to win at the shows you should mate show type to show type, but if you just want to keep improving your birds that's the way to go in my opinion. I mate many of my better so-called "Pet Types" to show birds & see a lot of improvement in the chicks even in the first generation. Also I want to put many of the good traits of my pet types into the show types, as many "good looking" birds have a lot of improving to be done, in the way of their vitality, vigour, fertility, feather quality etc Edited July 24, 200817 yr by Norm
