I had a plastic bucket near to the aviary, it had some rain water in (about half full). I've thrown some old seeds in when I was in hurry. And when I came there the next day, there were 4 dead mice inside , I guess they climbed in to get the seeds and didn't expect the water and drawned :hap: . So I'm keeping the bucket there :hap:

Fancy that!!! Who would have thought a bucket, some water and some seed would do the trick.

I keep a couple of empty 20 litre plastic buckets in my bird room, I set them up where I think they run, as often they fall in & it’s a plus, I don’t keep water in it as it would be dangerous if a bird got free & fell in. Sometimes you don’t catch anything for ages, but if the numbers start to increase you have more chance & it’s easy. They can't jump out of a 20 litre bucket whereas they can a normal one.

I didn't catch any since then, but our two pups get some mice every day . Hubby found some poison that is not dangerous to pets (he said it blows the mouse up when she eats it and it squashes all the organs and she dies ), we have to look for it, it sounds horrible, but we have a big mouse problem, so don't have a choice

i also have the dreaded mice curse.

i use the everyday mouse traps in the avairy with success. i just place the trap next to the hole so that the pesky mouse most likely has to walk over the trap then place a pot over the trap to limit the movements of mouse.

my cat is now in a routine that in the mornings when i check the traps she waits at the aviary door for breaky.

ew....I think finding it is ew...I know when we did the mice traps here I couldn't bare to look at them dead, even though they are pest I do feel for them but I am sure that feeling is turned more into anger and non feeling once they are continously bothersome...

I agree Elly. I set traps in my aviary at home, but my lovely Father was kind enough to check and empty them for me. I just set them. When they start killing your birds or contaminating the food... they need to go!

I have had two drown themselves in my outside birds water bowl lately which is rather concerning. That being said I haven't seen any since and traos haven't caught any (and they were a male and a female) so I'm hoping they might have been the only rodent residents in the aviary at that time, I did find a nest of babies in the same week which I euthanased, so hopefully I have seen the end of them for the moment and the traps will keep them under control now.
