Posted July 23, 200816 yr Hi my name is Marlo and I'm 12 years old. I have only just got my first budgie last Wednesday. I bought the cage off ebay with my own money that I saved. My budgies name is Charlie and it came straight out of the nest so its really new! The friend that i got it from said that if it didnt eat in 24 hours, to take it back and she would put it back in the avery for another day or two. Mum registered me here because she thought I might like to get some help on looking after Charlie. We can't tell yet whether it is a boy or girl. I do know how to tell the difference but it's a bit young yet but we keep calling it a him. I had a look at the FAQs but I still cant really tell yet. I hope you don't mind if I ask lots of questions. I'm so happy I finally got a budgie and my family and I have already started to teach the bird a trick and it is doing well. Mum said I can post a picture of Charlie but mum said I have to post it in another section. Mum said that there is another Marlo on the site!!! From Marlo :parrot:
July 23, 200816 yr Hello and welcome Marlo Charlie sounds very young and if he was still in the nest box when your friend gave him to you then the chances are he will not be able to eat on his own A budgie is normally 6-7 weeks old when weaned. If you can post a picture of Charlie's face (with no flash) we should be able to tell his gender and a photo of his body will allow us to tell you his age Best of luck with your new baby, Keep us posted and you are in the right place to get all the answers you need
July 23, 200816 yr Welcome Marlo and Charlie. You sound very excited about your new frind Charlie. Good thing is if it turns out Charlie is a girl and not a boy then Charlie can still be its name Talk with you soon. Cheers Kaz
July 23, 200816 yr Hi and welcome. It was great of your Mum to register you here and I'm sure we can help you all to look after and train your new boy/girl. As Liv said, he sounds very young. When checking to see if he is eating, blow the husks off the top of the seed. There should be lots. If not he is just 'playing' with his food and should be returned to the aviary to learn how to eat properly. I can only imagine the excitment you must be feeling, and I can't wait to see a photo of him and get to know you both. maesie
