My First Df Spangle I Think

Featured Replies

Thanks Jenene, that is the bird i was talking about MB that was from 2 spangles and was born with plum eyes.

A DF Spangle Chick has plum looking eyes. Similar to a cinnamon.

interesting chick. Recessive coloured beak (Orange) blue suffusion o the body but if from two spangle, definately a DF Spangle in the blue series.

Just candled the last three eggs, one fertile two clear. The fertile one looked like it was still atleast a few days off hatching and going by my lay dates I would say it will hatch on about the 28th. That will make it around a week younger than the youngest of the other two, will it have any issues because i's so much smaller?

And the verdict is......a DF spangle!

It definately has plum eyes, they have just opened in the last couple of days and it is still very pink skinned, no dark flecks starting under the skin to indicate dark pin feathers(it's younger brother has these so will be blue ;) . Also no colour on the beak, which all the coloured babies from these parents have had.

This one will have a forever home with me :)

The last baby hatched but I'm a little worried about how much smaller it is, although it des have food in it's crop so fingers crossed.

congratsi, it would be interesting to see if all the DF spangles are like that or only certain ones? Could it mean they are masking a recessive gene and the only way to know would be to bred it out later ;). Anyways, cool beans.

I will be interested to see at what age it's eyes start to look black. It would be something you might not even notice if you weren't looking at chicks closley until they were older as the eyes may already be darker by then

It is great that it is a df spangle, I am interested in seeing how it turns out. My little guys eyes changed to black when he was 3 weeks old.
