Posted July 21, 200816 yr okay so a little while ago this guy who has been dubbed Charlie for some reason, came into my care. He is a young bird and I think once molt finishes he will be half crested. I know he is a spangle but after that my mutation knowledge runs out sorry (still learning) I have decided as I have no desire to breed crested and not the biggest fan of the spangles that I am going to give him to MB as a wedding gift but I want to get him a mate and give her the pair. So what would you suggest that I pair him with? I know that I should get a crest breed female and not another crested or tuffed hen but I need to know what Mutation would produce pretty babies for MB. she really likes the spangles so anything to hold that part of his mutation would be great. let me know so I can then see about getting one before the wedding. thanks in advance And MB if you have read this then I am going to come around and steal some of your birds
July 21, 200816 yr what a nice wedding gift , that is awesome. Does she likes blues or greens, that is another question too so you know if you should give her a female that is blue or split. I will let someone else answer the rest, all I can think of is "nice normal" to pair him with because that is supposed to be the key to bringing in good genes it seems . Plus a normal will give you 50% single factor spangles and 50% normals unless she likes Double Factor Spangles and you would need to pair him with a Spangle then so you could have 50% double factor & 50% singles.
July 21, 200816 yr Author I am pretty sure she likes DF so I am thinking another spangle then, hmmm as for blues or greens arghhhhh hmmmmm MB if you are reading this you might want to give me a hand (come on I know you are reading! ) I think she likes blues as she seem to have alot of blues in her avairy and her breeding pairs are either yellow faced blues or blue spangles like Buddy.... Hmmmmm so a blue spangle crest breed hen then maybe huh my head hurts! Knew I should not have had that wine....
July 21, 200816 yr you can tell if someone is reading your post by scrolling down and reading the bottom right hand side and it says # of Members like right now maise is reading your post when I am LOL. Anyways...see more factor to think about? Does she like green grays, I am not a fan of greens but love the green gray combo. Also I remember that when Kaz was getting into really breeding her birds she had too many blues because she is a fan of them but they told her to get more greens in there to help with the gene pool. Something you may want to ask her about. Then there is the YF factor too....so much to think about. Oh and does she like opalines? Edited July 21, 200816 yr by Elly
July 21, 200816 yr Author elly you missed the part about being helpful did you not??? I know she likes greens and i am pretty sure she like opalines... so maybe a green gray spangle crest bred hen is there is such a thing and I can find one in Melbourne... hey Kaz how about you just ship me one of yours I am sure you will have something pretty and being a Kaz bird will make her forget all about mutations! ETA - MB I can you!!!!!!! Edited July 21, 200816 yr by Angelic Vampyre
July 21, 200816 yr You had to know I would read it when you said I wasn't allowed I actually really like the greens at the moment so a green or blue would be fine as I will always get some green babies anyway even if he is split for blue. And yes see my topic that I am about to write with regard to my opinion on DF spangles
July 21, 200816 yr Yes I realized I missed the helpful part LOL as I was typing but in reality I was right making you drink more wine so you can make sure she has the perfect gift and look she LOOKED anyways
July 21, 200816 yr Oh and just food for thought because honestly I would be thrilled with whatever you get I love the bright coloured spangles like him and my bright skyblue boy so if it comes down to a choice between a bight blue or green and a grey green or grey go the bright one
July 21, 200816 yr hey Kaz how about you just ship me one of yours I am sure you will have something pretty and being a Kaz bird will make her forget all about mutations I am hopeless !!! I have been culling birds so I can rebuild the aviaries. My husband took me back to the breeder I got the last birds from before and spent some more money on me by buying more birds. I went thinking I would come home with 6 birds and I came home with 50. The breeder sold me all the birds he wasnt going to be keeping....some for Libby and The Pie also.
July 21, 200816 yr Don't worry Kaz if my OH's move to Perth works out AV and I will come and help you out with soe of those excess birds
July 21, 200816 yr Author LOL and they say i am bad when it comes to buying birds, OH GOD i could just see my sisters face if I came home with 50 birds! okay so bright green crest breed spangle hen I think i am on to something

July 21, 200816 yr Bright green/bright blue, either way I'm trying to avoid mauves/ grey greens in my spangles.
July 21, 200816 yr Bright green/bright blue, either way I'm trying to avoid mauves/ grey greens in my spangles. Good idea, that dulls the spangle marking right? By the Way Kaz...when are my shipment of birds going to arrive I have been waiting almost 3 yrs now...
July 21, 200816 yr Not sure whether it dulls them Elly, I just feel the bright colours give the spangles a bit more 'wow factor'. As the person tutoring the newbies at the last club night said there is something to be said for being able breed a bird that stands out on the show bench and pretty colours like pure violet and aqua always catch the eye, which might mean that the judges eye lingers just that little bit longer on your bird.
July 21, 200816 yr By the Way Kaz...when are my shipment of birds going to arrive I have been waiting almost 3 yrs now... Sorry Elly......Merlin sent me a message to say he didnt want to share you with ANYONE

July 21, 200816 yr And MB if you have read this then I am going to come around and steal some of your birds Hey AV I missed this when I first read your post, can you explain to me how that would be different to any other time you've visited?
July 21, 200816 yr I know we always say that you can’t have “TOO MANY BUDGIES” but I think that the pressure of working so hard on that new complex & trying to fit in Lead Light as well has got to Kaz…50 Budgies in one purchase, sadly Kaz I fear there’s not much hope for you now your completely gone…!!! AV you knew when you stated that MB shouldn’t read this that it would ensure that she did & she not only read it she posted too…I think a Violet Spangle is a nice looking bird if that helps.

Norm......I agree with you. I went thinking I was coming home with about 6 birds and I only took a couple of show cages with me. Partway through catching up the birds, the breeder decided ALL of the birds in his cull cage were going home with me for my original budget. However he has seperated some birds out for Libby and The Pie to choose from so I wont be keeping them all. There is some very good stocky breeding hens amongst them too. July 22, 200816 yr Ooops changed pages this is meant for Kaz of course... Yeah...it's good to know some have got it worse than even me...LOL...looking forward to some pixies when you can get around to it...on a new post of course. Edited July 22, 200816 yr by Norm
July 22, 200816 yr Author MB just cause everytime I come to your house I come home with birds does not mean that it is a trend..... I swear!
