The hen with ten eggs was NOT the hen who had a chick hatched...it was one next door. I candled the ten eggs and they are all clear, so I tossed them. Also removed some non performing birds and replaced them with better breeding pairs.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the bubs this time (there will be so many lol). I found my 2nd clutch of a similar pair was better than the already nice 1st clutch so heres lots of luck to yours.

awww that is no good 10 eggs and all empty. Is it usually the female or male that causes empty eggs?

Oh No! what a bummer having all 10 eggs clear!!

JB its normally the male who causes the clear eggs.

Sometimes its the hen. Some hens just plain go to nest and dont bother to mate...they do their own thing............todays modern woman  I dont know !!!

On another note OMELETTE now has 6 of her 12 eggs hatch. 4 in her nestbox and two are in Big Vinnie and Sootica's. The other six eggs are in another foster nest ( one egg may be clear ).............another hatching due Saturday.

No, havent bred with them before :D

I guess that must be one of the more annoying aspects of breeding that I'll have to get used to :D All that effort for nothing, poor birds...

Believe me, you will never get used to it - it's too annoying, exasperating, frustrating ....!

haha I'm sure that it does get abit like that sometimes. Ahh well thats all part of the breeding experience I guess.

Those chicks are way bigger tonight than they were this morning :o They are growing at a rate of knotts.

BAD NEWS too about Omelette's other eggs under the foster mother...the foster mother got off the eggs. When I checked this morning the eggs were cold. I am not sure if she got off during the morning or last night. I put them under two other sitting hens just in case they were still viable. Next chick was due to hatch tomorrow. Maybe it wont happen now :(

fingers crossed, I hope they are okay
