August 23, 200816 yr Author It's always sad when a chick dies but trying to look on the bright side, 8 is a little easier than 9 for Trooper, and it the long run the remaining chicks may benefit. Please don't think I'm sick but its a little like organ donation its not quite so bad (still bad) when others may benefit. It's that in bad taste? Hope I haven't offended anyone! Budgielover13 No....its all okay. I understand exactly what you mean

What rotten luck.  Mind you I lost a JK cobalt hen early in the season. Just dropped off the perch, no warning, no rhyme nor reason.  I'm telling you budgie breeding is NOT for the fainthearted!
August 25, 200816 yr Author Sixth chick died coming out of its shell. The silly little jellybean was a breech birth...backside out first...head inside shell. Didnt make it.

August 28, 200816 yr Sorry to hear about the losses Kaz of the hen & some chicks, seems more prevalent with the show stock.
August 28, 200816 yr Sorry to hear about the little ones that didn't make it. Did you get a chance to see if they were cinnamon or not? Good luck for the rest of the batch, I'm keeping my eye on this thread

August 29, 200816 yr Author Interestingly, and I dont know why this is....when I legrung these chicks I noticed they have very fat legs and feet
August 29, 200816 yr No cinnamons so far in this batch, living or dead....so that makes the dad pure and not split cinnamon ? Â Too early to tell if dad is pure as all the chicks could be male. If there are females in the clutch then he is not split.

I can already see the males in this clutch...I also have the dads pedigree somewhere ( Ken has messed with my paperwork and I need to search for it ) and in the pedigree it will say about cinnamon or not.

If a cock is a sex-linked mutation, he will only have daughters of that mutation. But if he is only split he can have Normal hens as well as sex-linked ones.
August 29, 200816 yr Author None of the chicks had plum eyes, so I would say I have all normal greens or maybe some opalines.
