Posted July 19, 200816 yr Hi all just a few questions on having more than one pet budgie ...we have our Male eight months old Cheekie Boi !!!!! who talks really well and its amazing how easy he picks up words and repeats them back ....we were wondering if having another budgie in the house but not together would stop him from talking ? Also we were wanting to hand tame some of our babies budgies when they eventually arrive....... will we be able to do that while having Cheekie Boi !! in the house or will it stop him from socializing with us if he hears there sounds ? We have noticed with Cheekie also just laterly he has started to bite when hes on something and dosent want to get off it is that because of him getting older or hes being rebelious ....lol hes bitten myself a few times on my neck as well just hoped off my wifes shoulder and came right over to me and give me a bite only a few times laterly but he never used to at all just curious to know if its normal or not ...... thank you look forward to hearing any help with this .....John & Swanacilli.
July 19, 200816 yr My friends budgie is a talker and he's mated and had chicks and he still talks, so I dont think so Edited July 20, 200816 yr by KAZ
July 19, 200816 yr It depends upon the budgie, some budgies will stop talking once they hear another budgie around where as some still talk. It is the same with the socialising, all budgies react differently to new budgeis being introduced to the house.
July 20, 200816 yr Agree with everything Deb said :hap: The biting is him going through his pain in the butt "teen" years :hap:
July 20, 200816 yr Author Thanks Deb, Libby and Jodie for your comments we will see what further eventuates ... lol in our household
July 20, 200816 yr Honestly, most budgies do stop talking or talk much less when they are with a budgie buddy because they have no reason to talk your language and mimic you because now they have their own species. Pretty did stop talking when I got Merlin and Merlin started talking after Pretty passed away. There is only one member I know that their budgie didn't stop and her other budgies picked up talking from him but he was also hand raised by her. As for taming other budgies I would find it harder to tame the babies when there is another adult budgie because they want to be with the adult budgie and and not you so I would keep them away until they are full tamed. I know I got Merlin at 9 wks, I did the 30 day quarantine but once he was Pretty he didn't want anything to do with me. This has been my personal experience. Edited July 20, 200816 yr by Elly
