Posted July 17, 200816 yr Hey all , At what age will the yellow faces apear on the chick? Cause so far out of 4 ( which have down )None have Yellow face
July 17, 200816 yr What are the parents? As far as I'm aware YF is dominant so you should see it in all your chicks. It could be very pale  I'm sure someone who's NOT confused will answer soon
July 17, 200816 yr You will notice Yellow faces when the first pin feathers come through. It is not an issue of "they will appear after a moult". They get them all. The only change after the first moult might be from type 1 to type 2, but they never change from white faced to yellow faced
July 17, 200816 yr BUT isn't if they are carrying 2 yelllowface genes they are a white face visually but actually a double factor yellow face.
July 17, 200816 yr Author He He He , Thanks Dave But Even I know that you can't get a yellow face that then turns white It's just that Angel My YF has her 6 babies 3 are pinks and 3 are 1 - 2 weeks old they are starting to get their pin feathers and their heads are still black and with all my other yellowface babies they were yellow at this stage, so I am hoping that the 3 little pinkies are Yellow Facesmum is a YF Opaline Mauve and Dad is a Violet Ress Pied ..... BUT isn't if they are carrying 2 yelllowface genes they are a white face visually but actually a double factor yellow face.Elly YES THIS IS CORRECT - Because I was the one that posted the articles and studies :DGreat memory Edited July 17, 200816 yr by Neat
July 17, 200816 yr BUT isn't if they are carrying 2 yelllowface genes they are a white face visually but actually a double factor yellow face. Good point Elly. If both parents are yellow faced blue, it is possible to get 25% white faced( double factor yellow faced type 1), 50% Yellow face and 25% white faced (no yellow faced genes. What are the parents?
July 17, 200816 yr If both parents are single factor Yellow Face you do have 25% chance of White Faces If 1 parent is a single factor Yellow Face and the other White Face you have a 50% of White Faced Then comes in the double factor white face.
July 17, 200816 yr Author 1 is YF 1 is Wf So look worse comes to worse I will paint their faces yellow ... FOR NEAT WILL HAVE YF A BABIES MAHH AHA AHAHA okay so that kinda sounded better in my head then it does here but well - I was so sure that YF being dom that I would get yf But since there is 6 in the nest box, and 3 are yet to feather up they may be the 50% YF
July 17, 200816 yr Do you mean he is white face or that he is double factor yellow face (which looks white)? If he is a normal white faced budgie (ie, not carrying the YF gene at all) then your chicks should all have yellow faces,
July 17, 200816 yr Author Dad is a All White apart from a Violet band across his belly Mum is a Mauve Yf Oplaine
July 17, 200816 yr Assuming he is not carrying the YF gene then all th chcks should be single factor (visual) YF
July 17, 200816 yr If you have a Yw (single factor yellow) x ww (white face) that is a 50% chance that you will have a ww (white face) and 50% Yw (single factor yellow face) So all the babies are not necessarly going to be Yellowface Singles.
July 17, 200816 yr hey it happens to us all...I do the square all the time you should see the scraps of paper, the dominant pied one I screwed up on and Liv caught me on that post yesterday
July 17, 200816 yr Kaz, are they 1 or 2 or both? Do you find that they are a paler yellow? Just curious
July 17, 200816 yr Kaz, are they 1 or 2 or both? Do you find that they are a paler yellow? Just curious Mostly the YF1 but in the cases its where they start out with a paler YF and after the first moult it is of course much brighter yellow.
July 17, 200816 yr gotcha, I was wondering if had to do with the paler yellow, I really like the paler yellow face myself especially on a violet or gray
July 18, 200816 yr yeah the yellow of the face will show when the pin feathers are starting to open around the 3 weeks mark. as to the double factor yellowfaces appearing as white faces - this is only with the TYPE 1 type of yellowface. a type 2 will still have a yellow face but the green bleed in the feathers will appear more patchy.
July 18, 200816 yr hey it happens to us all...I do the square all the time you should see the scraps of paper, the dominant pied one I screwed up on and Liv caught me on that post yesterday hehe - i cant take the credit for that - it was Libby who caught you... :hap: I am hopeless with genetics!!!
