September 22, 200816 yr Author okay, here they are..... Baby #1 - yf Baby #2 Baby #3 Any opinions on colour so far? I am betting baby 1 is a hen, if for nothing else, but for the same way she squawks like her mother does lol Edited September 22, 200816 yr by Sunnie
September 23, 200816 yr Author So *cough* any ideas on the colourings of these babies? (Now that I posted pics )
September 23, 200816 yr Bub one and 2 look like spangles and 3 looks like a normal. bub number 1 looks like it will be a yellow face too - I cant see any colour so looks like they are all greys Very cute babies
September 23, 200816 yr Author Thanks Liv Normals cant be split for spangles as such can they? A normal is just a normal in this case??
September 23, 200816 yr I agree with Liv. And NO they cannot be split for spangle as spangle is a dominant gene. They are either a spangle or NOT
September 28, 200816 yr Author Some more updated pics. I wanted to post this mostly to ask about the blue baby! I was really surprised yesterday when I was showing my fiance the babies and he pointed out the blue on the youngest! I thought two greys should only have greys? Anyway, your opinions on the blue baby would be much appreciated. I added updated pics of the other two just to show their development Baby 1 - YF Grey spangle (hen?) Sorry the back shot of this one is blurry, but Im sure you get the idea Baby 2 - Grey spangle (hen?) I know the leg ring is poopy I did scrape some of it off AFTER the picture- doh lol Baby 3 - Sky blue spangle? (hen?)
September 28, 200816 yr Looking good Sunnie...yes you can get a Sky Blue from Grey, as you have found out, but Grey is pretty Dominant, so will probably get more Greys. Good wing pattern on those Spangles.
September 28, 200816 yr Sweet for more ways then one, In the Baby , Baby pics i thought they were all spangles YAY!!! I was right .. They are gorgeous
October 2, 200816 yr Author Just thought I would update the pics again Baby 1 Baby 2 Baby 3 (was a wiggle worm and hard to get a picture of)
October 3, 200816 yr Awww they are adorable I think chicks 1 & 2 are boys and chick 3 is a hen (just a guess though)
October 3, 200816 yr Author Thank you My guess on sex (on personality) is 1 hen, 2 cock, 3 hen. Baby 1 is the spitting image of her mum and screams just like she does lol
October 3, 200816 yr WOW what beautiful chicks, there is just something about the spangle marking especially when it is defined that really makes these birds looks gorgeous, well done.
October 3, 200816 yr WoW :what: Those marking are fantastic!! Baby 3 is the one to watch Sexing i can't tell when they are black beaks heck i can't tell while they are in the nest haha So I am guessing that Baby 3 is a hen as it's cere is the one i can see under the black ... Good luck with these gorgeous babies
October 5, 200816 yr Author My breeding room window faces onto the back yard and I often "spy" on my birds from outside when I am walking past, cause I find it a good way to check on their behaviour etc without them being interrupted and knowing I am there. Anyway, I had camera in hand and had to take a picture of blue baby being adventurous on the little ladder I put in there. Darius is preening behind the water feeder, Grace is perched, baby 1 is in the corner napping, baby 2 is foraging and baby 3 is finding out about the world of climbing
October 11, 200816 yr Author Just another updated picture of this family. Mum was up on a perch, so she wasnt in the picture, but this is dad and babies enjoying their breakfast this morning. The little blue girl in front is such a character. Whenever you put your hand in the cage, she rushes over fearlessly and tries to bite you. She doesnt bite hard, being only a baby. So then I start to scratch under her chin and around her head and she leans into the scratching like a cat would. Its so cute
October 17, 200816 yr Author The family have been in the aviary for about a week now. I have been putting the babies out during the day and bringing them in at night, but the nights are warming, so they are staying out tonight. I got home from and did the rounds to check everyone is okay, and had to snap this shot. It's not exceptional, but I thought it was cute cause the whole family were all settling down for the night on one perch all together. The flash spooked the grey baby and he moved to another perch so in the 2nd shot its just the four of them, but I had to to to the other side so I could get my sky blue Lil Miss Fiesty in the picture as well Baby grey, mum, dad, baby yf, Miss Fiesty Miss Fiesty, baby yf, dad and mum
