August 31, 200816 yr Author I just read this post after seeing Neat's other post on my topic where I was having some problems. I was going to wait another week or so to update pics, but you all talked me into it. I have to say I am pretty pleased with my first show babies I have named them now too, though it was with some trepidation, I felt like I might jinx them if I gave them names and came home to find disaster had struck. But mum is doing a great job and the babies are nice and full and healthy and yes Liv, they are club rung Time for the guessing game again......what sex are they? Hmmm I hope they are the sexes their names denote or Im gonna have to think of new names! LOL Destiny- Oldest (hen)? Jade - Middle and Malakai - youngest
August 31, 200816 yr They are gorgeous especially the last one he a boy or girl? I think a boy Edited October 8, 200816 yr by maesie Spelling

August 31, 200816 yr Sunnie your babies look so healthy and their colors and spangle marks are vibrant, you should enter that last picture for the contest called Oh Baby & the Budgie of the Month that pose is way too cute.
September 1, 200816 yr Jade - Middle and Malakai - youngest :hap: You would have to be ecstatic with these gorgeous chicks :hap:
September 1, 200816 yr Author Thanks guys :hap: Yes Kaz, gotta say I'm pretty chuffed :hap: Any other guesses for sex? I have to say I'm biased to Malakai and I think he is a he, he has such a calm nature. He has come out of the nest box with Destiny today and he is picking at seed and shell grit on the cage floor. I think I might leave them both out now, as Destiny has been the only one out and I keep putting her back in at the end of the day to be with her family, but if Malakai is out, I figure they can cuddle each other. Also, in my other post, I posted the question to ask anyone's opinion about letting this pair have another clutch, seeing as more than likely mum will do the raising of the babies on her own again (after about 2 weeks) Dad was very attentive to her and feeding her prior to the chicks feathering up. Should I let her have a rest, or do you think it would be okay to let them have one more clutch?
September 1, 200816 yr Malakai is a male for sure ... Now I am thinking that the top one is girl and Jade is a boy ?? But that is me :hap:
October 8, 200816 yr Author Just an update on Cinny and Adonis. The chicks have well and truly fledged and are in the nursery aviary, all doing very well. Once the chicks were out of the breeding cabinet, I put Adonis back in with Cinny, but for some reason, he didnt seem interested. Poor Cinny was dying to have a second clutch and she was back in the nest box and laying eggs, which werent going to be viable without his interest. I was hoping he might become interested and I had seen him sitting on the nest box perch and paying her some attention, but certainly not as enthusiastically as you would think and young cock would be. Anyway, last night, Adam went in to check the birds before turning out the light and his timing couldnt have been better. Cinny and Adonis were having a huge nasty fight and Adam had to put his hands in to break them up. He was bitten by both for his trouble. I put Cinny in a holding cage for the night and left Adonis in the cabinet. Today I put them out in the nursery aviary. I dont know if these two will bond again in future, it seems odd that a pair who have had a clutch together should turn on each other like this. I tend to think the problem is more his than hers, she just wants to have babies and isnt an aggressive type of hen and he was the one I had trouble with earlier, with pecking at the oldest baby. Anyway, I just thought I would add this post to share this experience
October 8, 200816 yr How odd, normally its the hen who has issues - maybe he saw the work that was involved in raising beautiful chicks and decided he would rather skip town Perhaps after a rest he might want to have another round.
October 8, 200816 yr Author It is a shame, they certainly made lovely babies together, but maybe he is feeling stressed and cabinet bound or something and as you say Liv, after a rest in the aviary, he may come around again. Mind you, there is always next year with his beautiful violet son
October 8, 200816 yr Oh the moody thing .... .I hope that it is all okay for them Now ..... I looked at the pics again and I think that they are all male .. But that is me LOL so don't go by that HAHAH
October 8, 200816 yr Oh Sunnie They are adorable! You must be proud I hope after some 'free time' all will be will with the troublesome twosome.
