Posted July 15, 200816 yr Hey this Thread could be posted in either Health, or ShowBudgies so I put it here if it needs to be moved Sorry mods, for the Extra work but thanks I have a quickie - When you guys do shows - and all the birds are in the same room and etc - UMMMM Where is the quarantine in that????You'd wanna hope that noone's bird/s are sick ?? Just a thought that we all practice Quarantine - and if you don't YOU SHOULD - But Hmmm this one got me thinking **EDITED.....quaratine into quarantine** Edited July 15, 200816 yr by KAZ
July 15, 200816 yr It's a matter of trust, that is you trust the other breeders will not be showing any birds if they know they are sick.
July 15, 200816 yr I suppose that it wouldn't be worth showing a sick bird in the first place....mmm??
July 15, 200816 yr It is a matter of trust. I know that some breeders bring show birds back and then do a mini quarantine for 10 days just to make sure that they have not picked up anything. Also the bird do not come into direct contact with each other so yes there are risks but it's the way the wheel turns. Calling show breeders - what are your practices after a show?
July 15, 200816 yr After a show the birds are held up in a cage together. They are given sparx the first day and coccivet in the water for the balance of the week. If all is well after a week to ten days they go back into their flights. In shows the birds are already in their show cages when they get there. Real contact with other birds happens when 1. a show cage is face to face with another show cage with someone else's bird in it for the short time of being carried to the show bench...maybe. 2. transferance of disease can possibly occur with a judging stick or the paddle judges use to make the birds perch for showing....maybe. The only time I would imagine someone would show a sick bird would be if it was incubating a disease and they werent aware of it yet. As showing creates stress conditions you would have to be an idiot to show a sick bird.
