Runt Picking On Tweety

For the last couple of days Runt has been attacking Tweety and Tweety is too placid to fight back. He is not moulting and i rearranged their cage and that did not help. Could Runt be out of sorts because of Roxy and take it out on Tweety. Tweety had a fall out of a nestbox when he was a baby so he can not fly as well as Runt so Runt will fly to him and knock him off his perch and then fly down on to the ground and attack him. i have to keep opening the cage and pulling Runt off Tweety. They had the same problems a few months ago and i bought them a bigger cage and things have been great between. It only start when Roxy got put in a cage and they could hear her. Any suggections why it is happening and what i can do to stop it. I am wondering whether to clip Runts wings so Tweety has a better chance of getting away from him. Runt has also been not wanting to come to me at night when it is time to go back in his cage, it takes me a awhile to catch him. Runt is 8 months old and was also handraised by me.

I am no expert but I am thinking hormonal along with the Roxie being around, maybe you should seperate them?

I cannot seperate at the moment, i have no spare cages.

I'd say Runt is jealous of Roxy and the bond you have with her. Give him lots of attention (on his own) and he should realise that you have a heart big enough for the 3 of them :(

Thanks Liv for the good idea, i might take Runt to my room at night while i am watching telly for a liitle special mummy time. My budgies remind me some much of my younger children, "she's my mummy , no she's my mummy."

i have also got another problem now, my 10 year old daughter, who i love dearly but i think was born without a brain decided that Roxy needed fresh air and opened all the windows and doors in the loungeroom and put Roxy's cage in front of the opened window. I was in cleaning the bathroom with my 4 and 2 year old so i did not realised what she had done till i finished so he was in front of a window for about 10 minutes. I have shut up the house and put the heater on and hope the budgies will be okay. Tweety and Runt are also in the loungeroom.

Oh boy, kids mine do the oddest things too what they think is good, I always say ASK. My daughter who will be 8y tends do to things like this too, I believe it is a girl thing or thinking because my son is not like that at all. It has to do with taking care of instinct girls are born with.

Roxy is okay so the fresh air did not hurt her but it must be a girl thing Elly. My son is really responsible and great with the budgies where as my daughter i tell her constantly to ask but she says she forgets. I have had her let the birds out of the cage with the cats in the house.

yeah...a girl thing, I talk to a lot of my friends who says their girls are like that I just blame it on her blond hair :(

my daughter is not blonde so i cannot use that one.

i had a interesting night with the budgies trying to work out what is going on. i started with Runt out by himself in a seperate room with me and we had a nice time talking and getting kissed. Then i took him to the loungeroom and let the 3 out together and Roxy for the frist time left me and went to playing on the floor following Tweety and Runt around it was so cute until Runt decided he wanted roxy all to himself and whenever Tweety try to join them he would attack him so Tweety would fly away and Runt would fly after him and knock him out of the air. Then Runt would go back to talk to Roxy. I do not think Runt is jealous of Roxy. I cannot work out how to get 3 birds to get along, I ended up clipping Runt's wings last night because when it is time to put them back in their cage it took me 15 mins to catch him. Now Tweety will be able to get away from Runt's bullying. I really have to work out a way to stop the fighting or else my hubby says he will put roxy in the aviary as soon as she fledges.

Kids will be kids  My four year old let BG out of his cage today (which is inside - phew!!) - he said BG needed a fly  Good thing he is fairly quiet and easy to catch :)

Perhaps Runt thinks Roxy is foxy and he wants her all to himself ;) How are his hormones?? does he need more sleep??

i think he properly needs more sleep, my budgies are night owls they usually get put back in their cages at 9.30pm but then when my daughter gets up at 6.30am she turns on the telly which wakes them up.
