Posted July 12, 200817 yr I am considering making my soft food up in larger batches and freezing it in ice block trays as I am very busy with my job, kids, wedding, etc and i would be great to be able to just pop a couple of blocks into dishes and let them defrost or give them frozen in summer. Has anyone tried this? Is there anything that I shouldn't include in my soft food if I wanted to freeze it?

I used to do this with (human) baby food - it works a treat and saves so much time I cant think of anything that cant be frozen
July 12, 200817 yr I've done it to. As I don't have heaps of birds, food goes off really quickly. I found it great to be able to make up a whole lot and freeze in ice cube trays. To defrost I put them in a bowl of warm water. I used to do lentils as well, and they'd get a mix of them and veggies. Lettuce doesn't unfreeze well, but I think it's mainly the watery one which shouldn't be fed to them anyway.
July 12, 200817 yr Boiled eggs okay? I don't know??? They wouldn't spoil in the freezer - perhaps try one and see how it thaws
July 12, 200817 yr I know Bea would make up her mixes in ice cube trays and thaw them that is okay, but just putting in lettuce to freeze would get wet and soggy and probably not pleasant for them to eat.
July 12, 200817 yr Author Nah, I don't feel the need to freeze, my birds don't get it anyway. I just wanted to do my wet mix, boiled egss, chicken crumble, egg n' biscuit, carrot, apple and a bit of water to moisten, then freeze.
July 12, 200817 yr You should be able to freeze all those with not an issue for at least up to 3 months. If you do a search I am sure you will find Bea's post on it I remember it. .
