Posted July 11, 200816 yr I have been given 5 budgies by a girlfriend who's mother has had to go into a nursing home and can't look after them. I was a bit shocked when I got them, they were very thin and all had scaley mite worse than I have ever seen but after treatment they are coming on okay. I am a bit confused with the pieds, if anyone could help with the mutations I would be grateful. There is 2 cocks the same as below. Skyblue Opaline Spangles?? This cock is very pretty it has one pure white wing and the other one has just a touch of blue on the top. Has also got dark violet around his neck which hasn't come out very well in the photo. I have know idea of his mutation?? Next one is a pretty some sort of Spangle I think?? This last hen is a Creamino I think. She has some sort of crusting around one of her eyes, although better than it was, I was wondering if it could be scaley mite?? Not a very clear photo sorry.
July 11, 200816 yr Hey Denise Great save with the birds :hap: The opaline skyblue spangles YES The pied seems to be a violet opaline dominant clearflight pied...very nice. This one seems to be a recessive pied opaline spangle ( check for iris rings ) it wont have any if recessive. The creamino ( yes it is ) has mites around its eyes. Treating with spot on ivermectin ? July 11, 200816 yr Author Thanks Kaz. I have given spot on Ivermectin and have been putting some parafin oil on the feet of the worst ones. As for the iris ring on the hen, she is only young so I will have to wait for that.
July 11, 200816 yr Great save!!! They are very pretty birds I love the opaline spangles - very nice Well done :hap:
July 11, 200816 yr I agree with Kaz conclusions, they are very pretty, because of all the opaline going on and pied I am going to assume they are sibling and she got them all in the same lot especially since they are all hens, I bet your last hen if has red eye is a lutino is probably masking opaline too. A better shot would conclude if she was a YF vs a green base, I do see the green hue on her.
July 11, 200816 yr One - opaline blue spangles two -australian dominant opaline spangle (clearflight is a term for the dutch dominant pied) agree with the violet three- recessive skyblue opaline spangle Edited July 11, 200816 yr by Nerwen
