July 11, 200816 yr an Albino and a normal blue hen Yellow face, type 2 spangle cock Grey Spangle Cock Normal Green Cock Yellow Face type 2 cock and a YF (maybe 2) Cock (these two look like they have lost a number of feathers on their wings - it is not normal to have down showing like that. - Might need to look into the cause of the feather loss) Normal Grey Cock You need lots of hens for these boys. I don't know what you are looking for when it comes to chicks, but you have a nice variety of types and colours. Just remember 30 days (min) quarantine for all new birds Edited July 11, 200816 yr by **Liv**
July 11, 200816 yr These ones as Liv says about the feathers. This is usually what happens to some chicks who are plucked in the nest. If the feather follicles have been damaged over the wing butts the budgies as adults look like that.
July 11, 200816 yr Hi Charlie Welcome to the forum from yet another Adelaidian You have some very pretty spangle birds

If the feather follicles have been damaged over the wing butts the budgies as adults look like that. Thanks for that guys, at least now i know what i have. The two scruffy looking ones (i know its a cliche but i am going to call them Tom and Jerry) came from the same hen, they came out of the nest almost bald but did manage grow some feathers eventually, i figured she had either pecked them or I wasn't feeding her right, which i have since found out i wasn't, next time i will get the proper stuff for them. Actually heres a question, if I wasn't feeding my adults right is that why i only got a few chicks? I had another hen that was laying at the same time and despite laying about 8 eggs each clutch she only managed to raise 3 chicks. Thanks again for your help guys Charlie
July 11, 200816 yr Yes, if the hens and cocks, especially the hens, do not have the right nutrients, then they cannot produce fit healthy young.

Thanks again for your help guys Charlie Feather issues over wing butts indicate your hen was plucking these guys. I thought when I saw them that they had to be nest mates...siblings. Their feathers was not your fault but the hens.

Just remember 30 days (min) quarantine for all new birds Hey Liv thanks for that, the Y/F spangle cock i have just named Fred Astaire because he is the smallest, biggest ladies man i have ever come across. I have only managed to breed 6 chicks so have last sumer out of 2 hens and he was dad to them all, wouldn't even give the other boys a look in, not sure if i will use him again though cause i am looking to breed the club size birds from now on and he is tiny compared to Jack. Do you have any suggestions as to what to mix with the others though, i was just going to stick with paoring them with the same colour type but if you have any better ideas i would love to hear them Thanks Charlie
July 11, 200816 yr I am only learning about budgie genetics, and what is desirable when it comes to show birds too. So i am not much help in that area. There is soooooooo much to take in
July 11, 200816 yr Really nice flock I see that Liv and Kaz along with Dave have addressed the Henplucking issue. To your question re: feeding during breeding, Plenty of greens and Veggies along with Calicum, whist they are rasing chick, softer foods, like soaked seeds, Egg & biccy mix, Scrambled Eggs, Brown breads and More veggies
