Is Bitey okay?

Featured Replies

he has scaly face - its easily treated. If he is easy to handle you can treat him twice a day with cooking oil or Castor oil gently applied to the affected area with a cotton tip for about 5 days.

Other wise you can get medications to put in his water or on their feathers. There is lots of info on the net as its a very common condition

Ahh thanks Liv!! I had wondered all along if it was scaley face but I wasn't quite sure. I'll get him some treatment tomorrow.

Also discard old perches and replace with new and you might as well trat his feet too :budgiedance: to be on the safe side of course - Any other birds that are in with him need to be treated to as this can lay dorment for ages !!!!

Oh dear that doesn't sound like fun... I've been looking around and we don't seem to have the water based medicine in Australia... I have 7 other birds in that cage :D

Get a product called Moxidectin - It's a wormer but kills any other parasite that feeds off the fluids of the bird - I use it every 12 weeks - it's great stuff and i get it from my local bird dealer :D

I recognise the name from my searches of scaly face. I'm not finding any online for sale though. I do have this AviTrol stuff for mites and lice that has Pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide in it, but I dont know if it does the same job. You spray it on them.

Edit: Hmm if that isn't good enough, Avitrol Plus Bird Wormer might be...
