Posted July 4, 200816 yr I think I've already asked before :rip: , but I've just found the list of the kinds on the internet. Does anyone know the latin names for the kinds of eucalyptus you feed? (there are even the common names) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Eucalyptus_species Please I'm trying to get some for my birds, but I'm afraid to buy something that is for decoration only Thanks a lot Edited July 4, 200816 yr by Zebra
July 4, 200816 yr Any kind of Eucalyptus should be fine, just make sure it hasn't been sprayed with anything
July 4, 200816 yr Author Any kind of Eucalyptus should be fine, just make sure it hasn't been sprayed with anything So you don't think there are kinds that are designed just for decorating homes? I'm just worried if they wouldn't be different somehow . I'll definatelly ask them about the spraying... Edited July 4, 200816 yr by Zebra
July 4, 200816 yr Eucalyptus is a VERY widespread genus here and is commonly fed on by birds wherever it is found. As long as it hasn't been sprayed with insecticides or anything you shoudn't have any problems. Also you can look for Acacias, callistemons or melaleucas
July 4, 200816 yr I feel any ones that are strongly scented are the best for budgies - I have no evidence that they are better for them, but i know that if i give them a branch from a highly scented gum they swamp it and LOOOOVE IT!!!
July 4, 200816 yr You might want to make sure that eucalyptus leaves for decoration aren't covered in something to make them last longer/look nicer that could be toxic to budgies! Also, there are some types of eucalyptus that grow outside of Australia, so you might be able to find one growing near you or get a whole tree - you might be able to buy something from a plant nursery.
July 4, 200816 yr I did a post about the Gum leaves and which ones the prefer .... So unless u can climb to the very tops of the gum trees they will need to settle for second best .... Any gum leaves are fine , I agree with Liv on the stronger scented ones ( Snap the leaft and smell it Hmmmmmm ) ..... Make sure that you have cleaned them prior to decortating or feeding your birds .....

Actually, your hands smell after touching them too... lucky I love the smell of eucalyptus.
