okay guys, This has been buggin me for a year now and since I am on a role for being incorrect

I can't not see any error in this statement!

Everyone Knows ..Says ... That you need at lest 1 TCB to either 1 TCB or split TBC to get any TCB Chicks....

HOW can this be true when Margoo Skyblue Dilute Spangle paired with Starchsky ( Olive opaline Hen ) Produce

a TCB Chick ... ( Gypsy) ....

Now Gypsy had her clutch of 5 to Prince Cobalt pied cock and they produced 2 TCB chicks ....

Please can some explain this to me .... IN KINDERGATERN TERMS !!!!

Many thanks

Unless TCB is sex linked (sorry I don't know) then both parens could be split for TCB which would result in a potential of 1 /4 of the chicks being TCB

TCB Easaly (sp) isn't sexlink and the Other is .....

so I was taught that Hens can't be split they either Are or they aren't ( Gene not hidden )

See MB, B loody confusing eh?

Well then .... If they are sexed link HOW HOW HOW can i get a TCB from an only " Split " even if that is what he is

P.S talking about margoo here

Well that makes sense, my brain wasn't working a minute ago. Marhoo is split so he passed it to his daughter :D Prince must also be split for it to show up in their chicks

I can understand that one ... BUT Starschsky ( i hate spelling her name so I will call her S for now)

Isn't a TCB ..... So that is what I am not understand .....

She doesn't need to be, the gene is carried on the Y chromosome in birds. Cocks are YY, hens are XY (these are the sex chromosomes) A cock can carry the gene on one of his Y chromosomes and it won't be seen visually because whatever the dominant gene is on the other chromosome will be masking it. When a hen carries it on her Y chromosome she doesn't hav another Y chromosome to mask it so you see it. Does that make sense?

okay here is MARGOO

this is S on the left and their TCB daughter gyspy on the right

It's a sex linked gene Neat :D

A cock who is split will give TCB hens only...

A hen alone will give nothing and a hen and a cock together will give TCB's of both sexes...

INO mixed into this changes things also

okay well - Still doesn't answer the question ....

S isn't a TCB .... Margoo isn't a Visual TCB either so how did i get a TCB baby!!!!!!!!!!!

( THIS IS FROM MY ONE OF MY FIRST BREEDING ATEMPT YEARS AGO not the recent TCB babies )

Neat cocks can be split for TCB as they are saying, so if you are getting TCB chicks from non TCB birds it must be the cock that is split & all the chicks will be hens…the usual sex linked result.

So your saying MB that S is carrying TCB genes and Not showing it ?

Exactly…that's what she is saying.

Yeah no probs with that Norm ... Finally understood that part BUT!

The Hen ... Doesn't she have to be TCb to

Normal/Clearbody cock × Normal hen 25% Normal/Clearbody cocks25% Normal cocks25% Clearbody hens25% Normal hens SO Margoo has to be split!!!!!-------What are the chances of that me having 2 split TCB cocks Whooo

To make it easy for you this is a punnet square. Bear in mind that this is very simplified and it doesn't take into account if they are carrying other mutations, etc. Basically it shows the genes that each parent is carrying on their sex chromosome. N represent anything other than TCB or another sex linked mutation as that would stuff things up even more! It shows that you will get half TCB hens and half split cocks, but there is no way of knowing which male chicks are split as it won't be shown visually as whatever 'N" is will take over and be the visual markings. Does that make sense now?

I read up about them and it says they are sex linked so its the same as inos so the hen cannot be split for tcb she can only be visual so out of the first clutch where you got gypsy margoo is split and the hen is normal and from gypsys clutch you got the visual tcbs because prince is split aswell. Because if he was normal paired to gypsy (TCB) all you would get would be split cocks so he has to be split for you to have got your visual tcbs. Does that make sense?

Hehehe .... Nope didn't make sense ... Dave Explained your drawing for me then once he told me I re read what you wrote ....Mb, Thank you for your time in explaing this to me mate ..... ( the YY and XY confused me as I was learning the the XX xy ) ....Thanks MB XXXXGuys I know I am always re asking questions and the simple things are explained to me But I just wanted to tell you all why .... I am Hard at learning ... I had a massive car crash in 2002 and was in hospital for 2.5 weeks with Brain damage and memory loss .... this is the reason why alot of my questions may be repetitive, Why I've lost my ability to spell correctly and also my concentration and tollerance is bad .. So bare with me ;) ....Thanks Missylu You could have explained that alot sooner hahaha:D

I don't mind explaining things simply Neat. I am hoping to do my dip ed next year to be a science teacher and I have taught peple from the ages of 4 up to adults so I actually enjoy helping people expand their understanding. Sometimes it's also a matter of teaching something the right way too, the way one person explains something won't work for everyone so you have to be versatile and be prepared to reinvent things a bit ;)

I think I said that to you the other day Neat, in one of your other posts, how amazing it was that you got two split cocks. Did you buy your TCB hen & the two cocks from the same place?
