Posted June 30, 200816 yr Neat pointed out something to me the other day...... None of my show birds are pairing up? I didnt even think about it, with all my other birds pairing when i actually thought about it not one of my new 20 or so shows have done anything i havent plucked them or anything but they havent even shown any interest??? I have had them now for around 3 months so they should be settled in now? Any ideas?
June 30, 200816 yr A lot of show breeder pair up birds at set times of the year depending on their setup and showing. Maybe the birds you have are conditioned to breeding being a certain time of year. Or your weather has been too cold and days too short. There's a huge difference in breeding show VS pet. Pet types are more vigorous, breed more chicks and are generally mostly hassle free parents. Same cannot always be said for show types. Can you post some pictures so we can see what condition they are in ?
June 30, 200816 yr Ive found they need a good diet leading up and you need to watch them closely to get them at the right time. Pet type are happy to go down any time and breed like mice!
June 30, 200816 yr Author I think you are right, Neat did tell me to set up a light for the night time to give the ilusion of longer days. I am going to give that a go i have been meaning to take photos of my breeders and cabinets for ages but it takes a long time for me to load them onto photobucket thats why i dont do it much. They seem to be in condition but just dont want to know each other? I will try and get some pictures tommorow i am going to start having the light shine on them and hope that works. I am so impatient!
June 30, 200816 yr If in breeder cabinets there has to be good light conditions. Too dark and gloomy and you will have little success.
