If the eggs were actually left for one whole night they probably would be no good, but this depends on how cold it was. How do you know she was off for a whole night? As maybe she returned at some times. Also it depends on at what stage incubation was at & some eggs still maybe okay. As at different times like eggs very early in incubation would not be effected if left for some time & others almost ready to hatch can survive longer also. If she is still sitting I would advise to let her continue, most birds will leave the eggs after some time if they don’t hatch & then produce another batch.

Are you positive she had actually begun to incubate the eggs ? They dont incubate from the first egg laid as a rule but somehwere partway along egglaying...by around the third egg or so. All hens are different. If she had been sitting constantly to keep the eggs warm with only 15-20 minute breaks then she was incubating. But if she was just still laying eggs and not constantly sitting and keeping the other eggs warm yet, then she hadnt begun to incubate.

If she actually WAS incubating and you can be sure she was off the eggs all night then you need to know what is stopping her from staying in the nestbox. If she was off the whole night long and eggs were incubated then its likely the eggs are no good now.

At what stage was she at with egglaying, eggs and possible incubating ?

I agree with both of these questions ....

How could you tell that the hen was off her eggs all night? and not just going to the toilet or having a stretch?

And how many eggs are there as hens do not NORMALLY incubate until after 3 eggs have been laid

I would candle the eggs , that is hold them up to a light source and see if they are fertile , then put them back and leave them , and watch the hen too see if she is still incubating.

she has five eggs and she was incubating them for 13 days...could you tell me if they will be alright and i know she was off them for the whole night because i went out when it was dark and she was roosting on a branch and the next morning i went out for feeding and she was just waking up when i went out but when she filled her stomach she went back to the eggs??? will they be okay??

If the hen was truly off her eggs for all that time the chicks will be dead in shell. If she went back onto the eggs after you saw her, they will be fine. Only thing to do is wait and see. Have you checked to see if they were fertile in the first place ?
