Two Budgies & A Possum For A Mouse

Featured Replies

Posted

So I had this Mouse and its set up for sale / free to a good home. I find a guy who is happy to take it and his Daughter is excited and I go around there today to drop it off and find out be breeds Budgies. He said that he could not take nothing for the Mouse and all the set up so he said I could pick a couple of his cull brids as I was just like in WOW of his set up! I mean Daz yours is a tiny back shed compaired to this guys and he had some REALLY nice birds (or I thought they where nice but then again I am learning)

I got these two guys

One has an Orange / gold ring so I think he is an 06 bird (I need to write down which colours match with which years failing that I should have asked!) but he does have the pretty flecks on his head and has blue feet which is strange but well he was cute (yeah I know shut up)

The other one has a Black ring which is this years so he is younger and was out of a group hatched early this year. I really like the second one he is just one of those birds that catches your eye and in a flight of about 25 that are all the same colour it is hard to do.

Oh he also gave me a possum! MB is going to come around and pick it up

So yeah my 13 has grown to 15. I really need my breeding cages and garage converted!

Nice birds :D and a good deal :D

I thought so! Was not my mouse and the thing made my dogs crazy and my sister is scared of them so the mouse had to go! I am sure these are not the best birds that I could have gotten off him but I went with a gut feeling and took the two that caught my eye when I went in.

He didn't have any with muddy belly's for MB and me but he said that if he got any he would set them aside at no cost cause normally if they have extra black spots / black markings on their belly etc... then he just cull culls them :D

Also why does one have blue feet? I did not really notice this till I got home.

Correction make that three new Budgies!

Took the Possum to MBs and walked off with another bird. A little blue spangle boy who has been called Buddy. Will post pictures when I get them :)

Oh my 4 no more now is 16! :)

Everyone needs to keep their fingers crossed for this little possy. He has been bitten by a dog and isn't in a good way. He's taking glucose water and has had some antibiotic treatment but he isn't interested in food of any sort at the moment.

Some birds have blue feet you will find them more on some mutations, you won't find them on recessive pieds & inos etc...

Oh my how did the little guy get bitten by the dog? :(, I hope he is okay!!!

AV nice birds they remind me of Merlin :D.

The bloke found the dog growling at the possum on the ground this morning but didn't think the dog had bitten him. He obviously hadn't looked all that closely at him because he clearly has a bite mark on his shoulder. It probably happened over night sometime as all healthy possums will be back in bed well before day break.

You got some nice trades there, good luck with them.

This is my sister she is not a bird person so to have a bird on her is a BIG thing.

MB your right he chews everything like a puppy! I am going to have to make sure he gets lots of chew toys! he is chewing all the treads off my nightgown at the moment

Edited crews to chews.

Hanging in there. He got out of his box twice last night but couldn't get back in so I popped him back in both times. He's still not interested in food but hopefully tonight he might eat something. I'm hoping some apple and banana might entice him.

How old is the possum MB...

May not be eating due to shock???

It's a nearly full grown little fella. We have done everything in our power to help him, its now up to him to fight through and to start eating. He seems a little stroner this afternoon, he was curled up on the floor of his cage when we got home from the shops and woke up and climbed back into his box on his own.

What about IV just to keep his fluids up? Anyone qualified to do it around you?

He is taking glucogin dissolved in water regularly so we aren't worried about his fluids and the glucose should help to keep him going until he does start eating. We have good vets in Melbourne and quite a few are willing to do wildlife work pro bono or atleast cheap so he's in good hands :P

Some good nes this morning, he still isn't thrilled about food but he got up this morning on his own and had a drink out of his dish (previously I have had to offer him a dropper in his box) so hopefully that is a good sign and he might decide to eat today. Out to cut him some fresh native branches before I head to the bird sale :P

More good news! I got poss some fresh Callistemon tips this afternoon when he came out for a drink and he is currently stuffing his face :D Interestingly he isn't interested in any of the 'treats' (apple, broccoli, etc) that I gave him, just wants his fresh leaves

Here's poss:
