Posted June 26, 200817 yr In reading another post I read that Sky to violet will give you mauve chicks? Well how can you get Slate, do you have to have slate to begin with or can you pair for it? Still trying to figure it all out......
June 26, 200817 yr You need to have a Slate, as it’s a separate Mutation…they are not available in Australia & I don’t know the situation in the USA.
June 26, 200817 yr Not that I’m aware of, but after her Recessive Grey & other Rare colours anything is possible…LOL…they say gardeners have Green fingers, but she must have Golden or something like that…& what with Throwbacks new Mutation, it’s very interesting to be on this forum as you see things you may not see in a lifetime in your own aviaries.
June 27, 200817 yr I once saw a slate and it is a very dark colour...somewhere between the darkest grey and dark navy blue. Libby doesnt have a slate.
June 27, 200817 yr Author The man who my father dealt with and that now is my part time mentor along with all of you here on the forum he told me has the only slate in the state or maybe it was the country, they were a real dark color, wish I would have taken a closer look now but was well overwhelmed at the time, but do remember that they were very striking birds. I havent been to see him in a couple of months, he orders my seed for me. Next trip I will find out more about his Slates and see if he would mind my taking a few pics for the forum. He is a showbreeder, and judge, has been in the business many many years, Mr. Davis, he is a very nice man and has been a great help. He told me to work on the head size and masks of my budgies, can't wait till August, my very first show, anxious and nervous energy all building up!!
June 27, 200817 yr Nopes, mine isn't a slate, we've concluded it's recessive grey in the end. Golden fingers If only!!!! These are all flukes, which some how work out
June 27, 200817 yr To my knowledge there are different " TYPES" of slates you can get Mauve slate, Cobalt slate and etc ...... So i believe that there actually could be a slate here in OZ, just that no one knows it
