Posted June 26, 200816 yr I was excited a few weeks ago about my tcb cock and lutino hen, but as I know she is a prolific breeder and a good mum, I have to think he might be sterile or past it, though his ring says he is only 4 years old cause they have only produced clear eggs, so its back to the aviary to have a fly and rest. Anyway.......moving on. My little dom pied hen laid 6 eggs to one of my better cocks. He is a normal cinnamon green, not a huge bird but he has a nice head and I guess pairing them I was hoping the get green cinny dom pieds somewhere. She is a proven breeder and good mother, though her last partner was a smaller cock and mauve, they still had pretty babies, and quite a few with cinnamon through them as well, so I guess he was split. She had her first baby to this pairing yesterday. I wont take lots of baby pics, cause she is a feisty hen and yells at me every time I check in, so I only bother her once a day. I dont however have a decent picture of him, so I might just pull him out briefly to get a photo, cause there is no way he will let me take a picture in the cabinet. It's an old home made cabinet and the nest box perch faces the back of the cabinet and he spends most of his time sitting up there. Will post pics of the parents soon and update on the birth of babies and post piccies of the babies when theyre all hatched etc :hap:
June 26, 200816 yr Don’t worry Sunnie I paid $50 for a TCB cock, spent months with one hen nothing, then replaced hen with a younger one, she is on her second batch still no luck even clipped his vent feathers something I have never done before, not looking too good for me & he’s 4 years old too. Good luck with the other batch.
June 26, 200816 yr Author Thanks Norm Well I was lucky enough to only pay $10 for him from a friend who is getting out of the hobby and he is a stunning looking boy. But if all he does is look pretty in my aviary, I dont mind for only $10 Anyway, I managed to snap a couple of pictures of Buster this morning, I was surprised he is usually very shy. I didnt take a new one of Gemma and the old one of her isnt very flattering, I will have to post another further down the track. They have their 2nd baby today He is actually a cinnamon green, but the pics dont show up the colouring well. And Gemma
June 26, 200816 yr Your Cinnamon Green looks real nice, I agree he has a nice head, I have one that looks very similar & I wish I could bred some more from him, but he hurt one of his legs & hasn’t produce any chicks so far. You should get Cinnamon hens so hopefully some will be Pied for you.
July 7, 200816 yr Author An update - still no pics yet cause Gemma is super protective and wont move off her babies, so I dont like to upset her. Anyway, in my previous post, baby #2 was born 27/6. There were no more babies until Thursday 3/7! That's 6 days after her 2nd! So I thought maybe the other eggs were clear or dead and this was the last egg to be laid. Then another baby hatched yesterday! So now she has four out of 6, but I will fall off my chair if any of the other eggs hatch lol
July 7, 200816 yr Get a bright torch and candle the eggs you should see movement or a little beating heart :budgiedance: this will tell you if they are DIS
July 21, 200816 yr Author I finally have some pictures of Gemma and Buster's babies to post. Every time I have taken pictures, they have come out blurred, or too close, or too bright or not bright enough or something! These still arent the greatest of pictures, but you will get an idea of their babies and I would like to know people's opinions on the colours of the two youngest. There is a big size difference between the older two and the youngest, cause there was about 6 days inbetween the 2nd baby hatching and the 3rd. Anyway, here they are Group shot Baby 1 normal green cinnamon hen 2 shots of baby 2, cause one was too bright and the other just looks awkward. Dom pied hen Baby 3 - looks white with very heavily marked cinnamon wings Baby 4 - normal something? lol Comments on those last two will be very welcome please
July 21, 200816 yr They are very nice looking babies i love the first cinnamon shes cute! Does the white one have red eyes? I am not very good with genetics but she could be a lacewing or fallow if she has red eyes do i see blue coming through on her tail? She could just be a sky blue cinamon wing also. Sorry i am not much help. Edited July 21, 200816 yr by KAZ
July 21, 200816 yr id say that the cinnamon wing would be a sky blue as well and the last baby would be the same as the first two?
July 21, 200816 yr A cinnamon Opaline cobalt. With the couple of the white flight feathers maybe dom pied. Pretty bird! I had a Normal grey with one white flight feather he threw dom pieds. The cinnamon green is nice as well Good quality youngans! Well done! baby 4 normal green
July 21, 200816 yr Author Thank you for your comments She's certainly not like any baby Ive had before.
July 21, 200816 yr looks like a little cinny violet to me, not pied as there is brrown markings on the flights
July 21, 200816 yr They turned out nice chicks Sunnie you should be happy with them. I agree that the Blue chick looks like a Cinnamon Violet from that small amount of Blue on the tail, but seeing both parents seem to be Light Green maybe it’s Sky Blue time will tell, this means that both parents are split for Blue & I agree chick four is a Normal Light Green.
July 22, 200816 yr looks like a little cinny violet to me, not pied as there is brrown markings on the flights Agreed
