Tcb Hen & Violet Cocks

Hi All,

Could not resist these stunners whilst 'browsing' at my local bird store last week.

Am I on the right track with their mutations?

#1 'PASTEL' - A TCB (I think), I've never had a TCB before. Is she opaline aswell? Her colours are very pretty.

#2 'MAYFAIR' - Now, here's where I get really stuck. Apart from beign the most amazing shade of Violet, I don't know what he is. Is he a 'clearwing' of some sort? He also has some white patches on his belly. His cere is blue, but this picture makes it look more brown.

#3 'PARK LANE' - Also, the most gorgeous violet, but he has no black markings at all. I think he is a Dom Pied??

I would love to hear people's thoughts on these budgies....I was so excited to find them!

I'm not 100% sure either, I am pretty sure you are right about the TCB and I think the other two are dom pieds......but I am happy to be corrected. I just wanted to say what pretty birds they all are :)

1. I am not sure about the TCB part but a yellow face violet opaline yes

2. Violet Dominant Clearflight Pied

3. Violet Dominant Clearflighted Pied

I would assume that they are all sibling because of the coloring and the mutations food for thought when you breed.

They are beautiful

I hadn't noticed any violet on the hen, I will look closer tomorrow in the daylight.

It is possible that they are siblings, because they came from the same bird store, however the hen has a leg ring and the two cocks don't.

Thanks!

First one is an opaline TCB yf2

Second is a violet opaline dominant pied

and third is an opaline spangle violet dominant pied

good eye Libby, I thought I saw opaline in the 2nd one but I didn't mention it and completely missed the spangling in the 3rd one.

Nice birds Lucy...I agree with Libby.

Thanks everyone! Now I need to do some research into TCB's and the Violet gene!!

If you search I believe Norm's post he has TCB and I know that there is an article here and it is PINNED in the mutation section called Understanding the Violet Gene.

Lucy TCB’s are sex linked that means if you mate a hen with a Normal bird all her males will be split for TCB, but her females will not. The only way to get a TCB first generation with a hen bird is either to mate it to another TCB or a bird split for it. If not & you want to breed Blue series birds, you can mate it with an Albion cock. If you don’t mind whether it’s Blue or Green use a Lutino cock.

They are gorgeous! I am soooo jealous! Im not even going to ask how much they were because i might cry. What would happen if you put a green series TCB cock in with a Lutino or a blue series cock TCB with an Albino hen? Would the results still be the same or does it change because the sexs are reversed? Is that a silly question? Its just all the sex linked stuff is confusing me. :D:D:D

LOL...they were the most expensive budgies I've ever purchased!! The bird store had the two violet cocks advertised for $65 each, and the TCB hen for $30. He offered me the two cocks for $100 and $15 for the hen. I probably paid too much, but you don't see many birds like these in my local bird stores!!

Meanwhile, since 'investing' in these beauties I have started the ball rolling on joining a budgie club...I'm getting serious!!

PS - You'll note the cock's names "Mayfair" & "Park Lane" - the two most expensive squares on the board!!!
