Posted June 22, 200817 yr hey, just bored and though i might ask the question, we got one 2 days ago and it has been a pain so far! it supposbly backs up your files on your computer however we wanted the info off the compter all together so we put it on the drive and deleted it off the computer hard drive, however, because it "backs up" automactically next time we back it up it will erase everything as there is nothing left on the computer, so... we ended up losing our picutres and word documents, but kept our music which is what we mainly wanted, but anyway now we have worked it all out and fixed it up. anyone else have a external hard drive and had any dramas with them? June 22, 200817 yr I have a 500Gb external hard drive that is atatched to my laptop. I would be lost without it as it holds all my major programs and files. I'd say your harddrive issue is software related. Did you have to install any software for it???
June 22, 200817 yr Author yeh, but we have fixed it all up and it works fine now, we got a good price for it too, $199 for 750GB
June 22, 200817 yr Thats great that you got it fixed $199 is a great price - prices for hardware drop so quickly these days. I have never had any issues with my drive **touches wood**
June 22, 200817 yr Author was well needed as well considering we have 4 people in our house who all use the computer with only a 40GB hard drive, we only had 600mb left on it :S
June 22, 200817 yr My boyfriend is a tech geek works in a computer store and built my computer I have one and never had any issues with it outside that it is full!
June 22, 200817 yr Never had an issue - had a 200GB one for 3 years or so. Use some at school as well. I am an IT teacher, so I encounter or hear about problems a lot. never heard about the problem you have had though.
June 22, 200817 yr I'm going to need one with all the budgie pics! Good for backup to as I found out recently! Edited June 22, 200817 yr by throwback
June 22, 200817 yr I don't have one, but need one badly! Last week my sisters partner wiped our hard drive and to say the least I was very unimpressed and ticked off! Many many many photo's of special events and people/animals who're past were on there... We're all praying to god that it's able to be retreived... The moment it is, i'll be backing it all up... If it doesn't manage to be retreived... he's going to have h*ll to pay :fear Our computer was less than 1 yr old and had a 250gb hard drive when it crashed Edited June 22, 200817 yr by *libby*
June 22, 200817 yr Yes I have one about 300 something gig, good to store stuff as my PC getting a bit old [20 Gig HD] need to update get a more powerful one, as you need more when doing some things these days. Haven't had much trouble with it, only slows down my PC on boot up. If you get an expert on the job Libby, you should be able to retrieve what you have lost…I’m no expert, but you see the Police taking criminals computers away to check, as apparently even when deleted things can be retrieved. I save important stuff on a couple of discs & hard drives you can never be too careful, non of this technology is fool proof, I have had discs of all description fail me & if you only had the one you would be stuffed. If you are still using it you will be loosing more and more of the data with every thing you do.
June 23, 200817 yr l would like to invest in an external hard drive, it sounds like they come in handy. June 23, 200817 yr I feel you on that one birdluv!!! that totally sounds like him! We've been told by the experts if the hard drive is fried nothing is retreivable, but if it's only not booting into windows we should be able to save it all... The most precious pictures I have ever taken are on there... my Grampy who we lost in Nov last year, wearing a bright yellow Wu-Tang jacket on his 80th birthday :budgiedance: (He was a doctor and worked with Fremantle street kids... maybe he thought it was cool?) haha! And my gran at the christmas just gone holding one of my weero's I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that it's retreviable, going to have to wait for dad to get off his butt and take it in We've down graded to a spare 80 gb hard drive from my brother at the moment Liv... suprisingly works faster than the 250 gb one! Probably doesn't help we only had 40gb of space left on the old one
June 23, 200817 yr ugh some men :budgiedance: ( sorry guys, l know that you are all not like that) l hope that you are able to retrieve those precious picture's. that would be awesome
