July 5, 200816 yr Beautiful healthy looking babies Maybe some coloured split rings to tell them apart ?
July 5, 200816 yr they grow so fast, the 7th picture is adorable....you should submit for July Budgie of the Month
July 6, 200816 yr Author Thanks all and yeah, I'm going to have to do the coloured split rings... the only way I can tell some of them apart now, is their lack of feathers etc... but it won't be this easy for to much longer. I'm keeping 3 or 4. One will go to the elderly couple who live over the road from Mum and Dad. They lost their budgie last year, and another MIGHT go to Mum's best friend. She used to have one of my budgies, but he died from a stroke last year too. I haven't had a chance to find out if she wants one yet. Then if I'm able to keep any at the flat, I'll keep two there, and the last one will either go back to aviary at home with Crackle and Tweet Tweet, or I may have to squeeze it in at the flat... If they can't stay with me, they'll all go back to the aviary. Â As for names... :bluebudgie: . Depends on their sex... If I get and keep two boys... I'm thinking at this stage, Carson and Thom (***** Eye for the Straight Guy I love that show), but not 100% sure yet.
July 7, 200816 yr Author Well, got home from work to find a surprise in the bottom of the cage.......... Baby number one!!! I don't know how long it had been there, and whether it chose to come out or was pushed, but it was quite happy to go back when I returned it... So, I now have a KAZ 'igloo' on the floor of the cage and we'll see how they go. The oldest one is 25 days today and the youngest is 19 days old. mmm, they grow up so quickly!
July 7, 200816 yr They do don't they and you just want to kiss them and dunk them in your tea and gobble them up !! Â * got a bit over excitied .... Â But I know that feeling and mate it doesn't change from the very first clutch to 15 down the track the excitment is still there , Well for me it is :budgiedance: .......
July 9, 200816 yr Author I have names peoples!!!!! For the two I'm going to (hopefully be allowed) keep... if boys... are: HARRY & LIONEL YAH!!!!! I've been handling them daily, and the oldest one is, at times, checking things out instead of burying its head in my crotch!!! Edited July 9, 200816 yr by maesie
July 18, 200816 yr Author It's been so long since I have posted any pictures... sorry lol.  I caught and photographed all 5 of my opalines, and their ceres. I hope they are clear enough for some 'sexing' answers. I used no flash and had them in the sunlight from the window (first bit of sun in agers!)  a ) No leg band chick   b ) Red band right leg   c ) Red band left leg   d ) Green band right leg   e ) Green band left leg   My guess is that a, c and e are females and b and d are males. I'm not real sure, but I think b and d have a pinkish tone to their ceres and can't see definate white rings areound the nostrils... mmmm, but I'm really unsure?!?! The youngest chick is a month old today, and the others... a little older  My other question is about trying to fatten them up. I can feel their keel bones. Other than this they all seem really good. They are foraging for seed and veggies which I have on offer. I also have some millet sprays, and boiled egg mixed in with the veggies. They all seem to be interested but also all beg for regular food from Mum and Dad. Mum has her moments and has a 'leave me alone' peck, but I have seen her and Dad feed them when they persist. I was thinking about added some rolled oat or soaked wholemeal bread? Any other thoughts? Thanks all, Maesie xx Edited July 18, 200816 yr by maesie Added information

July 19, 200816 yr Anymore thoughts on sex? (of the budgies )  I wasn't going to give my opinion because it was different LOL..Neat this would be a great competition having us sex young birds and then seeing who is right. Anyways here are my guess.  A. Male (i say that because even though the nasals are white they look like they have a purple tinge and the cere looks more bulbeous)  B. Female (looks like a pale pink tan)  C. Female  D & E I say are both males.

July 20, 200816 yr Author a is a hen for sure...the others all look more female to me as well but you may be right with B and D as males. (looking a shape) Â Thanks Nerwen... The shape of B and D seem different and the colour also, where as a, c and e all seemed similar also. It's so hard! Â Thanks Libby! Not only are my bubs hard to tell apart, they are hard to sex as well! Lets hope they're not hard to tame
July 20, 200816 yr give the younger ones another week and they will either turn more pink (male)or more white will appear. (female) Edited July 20, 200816 yr by Nerwen typing issues
July 20, 200816 yr Author give the younger ones another week and they will either turn more pink (male)or more white will appear. (female) Â Â That's what I was thinking. The youngest one is only 4 weeks old anyway, and no of them will be going to my aviary or new homes until they are well and truely ready, so there is plenty of time. Thanks for your help luv!
