The Clutch Of Winter '08

For those of you who have been following my other thread Love is in the Air, I thought I'd start a new topic with their babies... so here it is. Just a quick re-cap: 7 out of 9 eggs were fertile, two didn't manage to get out of their shells alive and 5 have hatched and are growing up nicely. Now for the photos I know you all want... :P

ChickOne.jpg

Chick One, hatched on June 12th making him/her 9 days old.

ChickTwo.jpg

Chick Two, hatched on June 14 making him/her 7 days old.

ChickThree.jpg

Chick Three (who seems to be camera shy :D ), hatched on June 16 making him/her 5 days old.

ChickFour.jpg

Chick Four, hatched on June 17 making him/her 4 days old.

ChickFive.jpg

Chick Five, hatched June 18 making him/her 3 days old.

So there you have it, five heathly looking babies. Crackle is doing a great job. I saw her feeding them the other day, and she cleans around their beaks and gets off all the messy food as she goes... very cute! Tweet Tweet is also doing a good support role. He is a boy who never used to eat his greens, but now meets me at the door to tuck into the egg and veggies.

Fantastic photos Maesie. Congratulations on your new family :P Isnt it exciting ? :D

They look great Maesie :P

Thanks for the great photos

The second picture is SOOOOOO cute!!! Looks like the little chick is trying to hide "Aww Mum! I havent got any feathers yet." :D

Awww, thanks guys. :D It's really tricky to take good, clear photos when they are wriggling around, want to get back to Mum for warmth and food, and Mum is giving me the evil eye... "what are you doing to my babies". She is an excellent Mother though. She doesn't mind me checking them all out. It's all very exciting. As I don't breed much, I enjoy it so much when I do. I love the third photo where you can see it's little tail... lol.

Hey Deb, I can imagine our will be going through similar stages at the same time. I think yours hatched earlier than mine, but similar anyway.

Yes, Maesie, mine only hatched a little bit early. My first 3 where on the 9th,10th and 11th of june and then number 4 was the 15th so i have one that looks like the runt of the clutch.

I'm very excited, as I can see some yellow on the head and tail of the first two chicks... Not that I know what that means... but it's never happened before, so it's all good!!!!!

Your babies are looking really cute. ;)

looking good :D

I can spot opaline in there already! :D

Me too :P Arent they just gorgeous !!! ;)

Yes!!! I haven't had opalines in my nests for ages!!! last one was precious!

Thanks all... remind me what that is again... I'm hopeless with all of that, and colours too. No matter how much I read, it just doesn't seem to sink in. Is opaline when the colour of the feathers can be seen in their wings... as in chick one? Another question... if they were going to be green like their daddy, would I see that yet, or are the first two more likely to be yellow? I've never had a yellow budgies before! lol :D I'm really enjoying this clutch as it's my first one here with all my friends and new found knowledge. All the chicks are doing well, and the first one is a sweetie. He/she is starting to waddle around on my hand and will sort of jump back into the nest box while sort of flapping its wings. Very cute! ;) (just going off now to type opaline into the search function :D )

I'm not sure with the first one, it almost looks YF but i can't see the pins on it's wings to be definate...

awe maise, I must have missed this post they are so adorable, great pictures :D

Thanks Elly. They are doing really well. You forget how much Mum and Dad eat when they have five growing babies to feed. Mum is spending more time out of the nest box now as there isn't much room left for her, but the bubs seem to be doing a great job at keeping each other warm. It's going to be hard to pick the lucky two that will 'hopefully' live with me at the flat...

WARNING, WARNING...

very cute pictures ahead!!! lol

Well, the babies are growing up very nicely and it looks like they'll all be the same as Dad and opalines... Below are some pictures I took yesterday. There are some group shots, the back of the oldest chick, and then a 'portrait' shot of each baby. They are very hard to tell apart and I'm guessing it is only going to get harder. :P
