baby would not leave nest

Help!!!

You might remember my Georgie Girl was attacking her babies. Well we took Haths advice and took mum away and left dad with two of the younger ones, and then removed one when it started to eat, the other was 5 days younger so we left that with dad. This bub would not leave the nest at all, just poke out her head for a second. When we looked in the box, she always cuddled up in the corner with ther head down. Finally today i had enough, as she is now 4 weeks and 3 days old, So i took her out, and when i was placing her in a seperate cage, I wondered why she was not putting up a fight and saw, ( i presume mum) had pecked her head and she has a little hole in her head between her eyes, It is not bleeding now, but has been.

My question is, should i put something on it?

And will i have to hand feed her?

I've tried her on dampened egg biscuit but she wont touch that either.

I have some baby farex (rice baby formula) is that save for her.

Oh dear,if it's not infected there doesn't seem to be much point in putting anything on it. You could maybe try to clean any blood off but that may start the bleeding again. If it looks clean and healthy Perhaps you should leave it especially if its scabbed over because that will keep infection out.

Would she take some water mixed with honey from a childs paintbrush just for now?

I'm not an expert so these are only my thoughts.

OMG that has happened with my hen pecking the dad and well the dad died some time ago...very sad he had air sac mites mixed with a hole bleeding in the head...Do what Julie says

I'd call your vet and ask what they recommend. At over 4 weeks she should be able to pick millet seeds off the spray. If not, crush some off and put them in a dish for her. You can also hull/partially hull regular seeds yourself and give them to her. I think she will soon figure out what she is supposed to do, especially if she has another bird to watch. Dad should still be feeding them too.

I took the new bub Naming him /her 'misty' to the vet. I personally think that avian vet is a butcher in disguise. She said as the bird was undernousrished (I knew that) She gave me a special formula and the vet herself could not get baby to eat, then she took bird outside her room and when she came back in both wings had been clipped, :) and I mean really clipped, they are so short, poor little mite. :( Vets excuse was , as the bird was traumatised and underwieght she clipped the wings so the bird could not fly so it would gain weight more easy.

Poor birdie

Well we managed one decent feed of formula, and it is attempting some seed and endives. I am just going to give him some millet now.

When you feel his crop, it is hollow and you can see his chest bone protruding.

I think it is a him, but his cere looks swollen and a strange colour for a baby, and his beak is like a tortoiseshell colour, very unusual I think) Last night I had him sitting in my lap for approx 1/2 hour, then he crawled up on my shoulder for about 3 minutes. His beek is fine, he really had a hold of my finger so much he drew blood and would not let go.

He is now on the floor of his cage ripping up the paper trying to bury the banana i think

Did you complain about the wing clipping? I'm guessing you didn't ask for it. Maybe time to find a different vet... What formula did you get? If you use it, be sure to check the temperature before you feed it. Too cold will cause sour crop, to hot will cause crop burns. Neither of which you want your bird to go through. :D

The beak color is normal, a lot of babies have dark places on the beak when they are small. They fade, and are usually gone in a few weeks. Can you post a picture of the little guy? He sounds sweet.

Sorry Rainbow, I cant post a photo, still havent got a digital camera yet. He still wont take the formula, but he is eating millet and a bit of seed, some green tto. He sat on my shoulder for 10 mins last night, then on my chest 5 mins, on hubby 5 minutes then took a little flight (Suprise as his wings as so short) from hubbys right shoulder, he was on my left, then across to my right shoulder. He does step ups, and when he is on the floor he waddles right thru the house into the room where we have his brothers and sisters. :(Laughing out loud):

So he might just make it

Cindy

No, I did not ask to clip her wings

And yes It is a wonder all in cyber space did not here me telling her off
